GAME Reward Cards, Gift Cards and Refunds Halted

This was bound to happen when the administrators moved in but it’s worth reiterating for those of you with credit remaining on your cards or those hoping to swoop in for a bargain now the beleaguered retailer is starting to streamline.

GAME (and Gamestation) reward card points will not be honoured, any gift cards you might have been holding on to are, for the moment, worthless and you won’t be able to return anything bought before or after the company entered administration for a refund.

This might all just be a suspension. If there’s a rescue and the new owners decide to run the chain as it was, they might honour this credit so don’t throw your cards in the bin just yet, although I would suggest that the hope of them ever being worth anything again is a long shot.

The full list of changes to the company’s policy, as displayed on their Facebook page, is as follows:

  1. Online Sales: We expect some disruption to our online services over the next few days while we make some changes. We apologise for the inconvenience this causes.
  2. Refunds and Exchanges: Until further notice, we will not be able to offer refunds or exchanges for products purchased either before the administration or for products purchased from the date of the administration.
  3. Pre-Orders: No new pre-orders can be taken until further notice. No refunds can be given for any pre-order deposits which have been paid. We are reviewing this over the next week.
  4. GAME Reward card: We have had to suspended use of GAME Reward Cards. This means that points can be earned but NOT redeemed until further notice.
  5. Gift cards: We have also had to suspend GAME gift cards. The value on these cards cannot be redeemed. If this changes, we will let you know. We apologise for the inconvenience this causes.
  6. GAMEWallet: the value stored in GAMEwallet accounts will be suspended until further notice following the appointment of administrators.
  7. Pre-owned Software: You can still buy pre owned products at great prices in your local store or online. If you trade in a pre-owned software item then you will still be able to accrue reward points and use your trade in to exchange for another item. You will not be able to trade in pre-owned software for cash. If this changes, we will let you know. We apologise for the inconvenience this causes.
  8. Pre-owned Hardware: We have had to suspend trade in for pre-owned hardware at this time. If this changes, we will let you know. We apologise for the inconvenience this causes.
  9. Click and Collect titles: We have had to suspend this service. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.

If you have any questions, you’re urged to contact GAME customer services by email on [email protected] but we imagine they’re rather busy just now.

  1. Used my remaining £105 for 3x £35 PSN cards two weeks ago *smug*

  2. i used my points saturday.
of course i only had like £2.50

the gamestation near me has now closed, the staff in game seemed pretty forlorn about their prospects.

i for one will be sad to see game go, that’ll just leave cex, hmv and the supermarkets to buy games.

i’ll buy from hmv if they’re cheap enough, but their prices were pretty much always higher than game.
    and supermarkets?
well, those aren’t really one of the places i’d normally even consider for buying games.
    so that leaves cex.
so that means practically all the games i buy will be preowned from now on.

and some people are actually celebrating game going out of business?
the glee some people have shown, is, just repugnant.

  3. Not surprised as they are in adminstration. I popped into my local Gamestation during my lunch break and twas empty.

I wonder if the admins will force every store to do a closing down sale?

  4. I’m reasonably sure that it’s illegal to suspend refunds and exchanges (at least in the case of faulty items). Hmm…

    • I wondered this as well. I imagine once you announce administration it suspends those laws.

    • At the point of going into administration the company doesn’t have to honour anything from before it, I don’t think.
Likewise if someone buys them out of administration they would have to honour anything from before or during administration as it’s technically a completely different company. Unless it’s sold as a going concern.

  5. All credits used. May as well bin my card. HMV it is then….

    • No independent in your area?

      • Truth be told, there are none in mine. HMV & ASDA will be the only sources. Tesco or Morrisons if i am prepared to travel.

  6. So glad I used the credit I had on my reward card to get saints row the third.

    • You should be glad, it’s a great game! :)

  7. Shame to hear all this. Luckily I have no points or gift/reward cards with them atm.

  8. Hopefully my brother remembered to use the 30-something pound credit I gave him before I moved to the US.
