Rovio Expands With Futuremark Games Studio Purchase

Rovio Entertainment has announced the acquisition of Futuremark Games Studio, developers of ‘Shattered Horizon’ and ‘Unstoppable Gorg’.

“They are an incredibly talented and experienced team, and we are thrilled to have them on board. Rovio’s success is founded on the excellence of our team, and Futuremark Games Studio is going to be a superb addition.”, said Rovio’s CEO, Mikael Hed.

Futuremark Games Studio has experience in developing and releasing titles across different platforms and services including iOS, XBLA & Steam. This is Rovio’s second acquisition of a developer in the last year, the first being Kombo Animation Studio.

“I am proud to see the potential of our talented games team recognized by Rovio. Futuremark will now focus on supporting gamers and industry with 3DMark, our professional grade benchmark which, in a new version to be released later this year, will allow unified gaming performance comparison across operating systems and form factors for the first time.” said Jukka Mäkinen, Futuremark CEO.

The acquisition comes a week a few days after Rovio Entertainment launched Angry Birds Space, which saw 10 million downloads in 3 days.

  1. 3DMark 12 please!

Futuremark have got some wonderful artists working for them, they just need a little more direction when it comes to actual games. It’;; be interesting to see what Rovio has them doing.

  2. Hopefully an Unstoppable Gorg sequel will eventually come.

  3. They are booming now…
