Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee HD Dropped, Reboot Coming Instead

Follow me.

The HD remake of Abe’s Oddysee has been put to one side, and instead the team at Just Add Water are focusing on rebooting the game from scratch, according to a Facebook post.

“OK, so here’s the skinny on Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee,” says the post. “We decided to reboot it, not just an HD update to the original PS1 title, this is a NEW game.”

“It will be getting its first public showing later this year, with a release date of next Summer (2013).”

Little has been seen of Abe’s Oddysee HD, but it feels ripe for a complete overhaul rather than a new skin, so this sits nicely with us and – presumably – the legions of Oddworld fans eager for more in the series canon.

  1. I can understand this – the ‘screens’ gameplay feels old when you replay it now.

    • True, but cant we have a redo and a reboot? :P

  2. I would be cool with a “Follow me” in HD, but a reboot might be just as good. As long as they keep it 2D.

  3. A reboot is great but I still would have liked a HD makeover for the original.

  4. Finally I’ve been waiting for something like this. Those “hd” (resolution change)” remakes” have never excited me that much, especially considering on a pc it takes all of 2 seconds to apply. I think if you got the time re-texture and re-animate where you can is the way to go.

  5. I’m not sure a reboot is entirely necessary, Abes Odyssey was fairly special. I still have it on PS1 disc, sadly the tiny wee emulator lag on the PS3 makes achieving über accurate button presses blood curdlingly difficult :(

  6. Please say the reboot will be with Abe that would be amazing! Man if it is I’m so excited.

  7. This is awesome news. I hope. The same gameplay with brand new textures and framerates would be absolutely marvellous!
