Many of us have been busy this week with a little thing called E3. It works both to consume vast amounts of free time and also as a kind of video game aversion therapy. After a day, or more likely, night of E3, video games aren’t exactly the first port of call to help wind down.
Still we are all here at thesixthaxis because we’re perhaps a little too fond of gaming so they still get played, just a bit less than usual. My only gaming this week has been pre-arranged meet-ups with friends to play Star Wars: The Old Republic and Gran Turismo 5.
Kris has been playing Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars: Director’s Cut on iOS. He calls it “a great port of the old adventure game”. It’s so good it’s not just awesome, “it’s super awesome and funny and really addictive”. The gushing didn’t stop there, he’s “absolutely loving it”. I think he likes it, don’t you.
Snaffling the game for review for himself before the rest of us knew what was happening Peter should be enjoying playing Game of Thrones being a fan of Westeros. “Still early days with it but so far it’s absolutely dreadful”. Oh dear.
“The game is overly complex mechanically, spends too much time trying to explain those fiddly mechanics and has the worst voice acting I’ve ever heard.” Sounds like the relatively small and unknown developer may have been caught out by the franchise’s sudden HBO-elevated popularity and profile.
[drop2]“It’s a crushing disappointment for me because I really thought it could have been good.” Persevering the the game is a necessity as it’s for a review but at least Peter’s trying to remain optimistic, “I suppose it might all improve once I’ve gone past these first few hours but I’m not holding my breath.”Jim has finally got around to spending some quality time with the copy of wipEout 2048 he picked up at launch. Despite not being a long-standing fan of the series he has “come to enjoy the game very much”. Aside from that it’s been more Wrath of Heroes as he works towards his first Mastery Tier (or Prestige in CoD parlance).
Aran’s gaming time has been filled with “a lot of Football Manager” though it can’t be much fun as he’s managing Everton. Other than that his gaming time has been occupied by The Darkness and Darksiders.
When not E3ing Blair has been playing through the Batman Arkham City: Harley Quinn’s Revenge DLC for review. In a nutshell he describes it as “very underwhelming” and says that it “didn’t live up to [his] expectations or the rest of the game”.
Everyone’s favourite big cuddly bear not called Reggie, Tuffcub, is currently living it up across The Pond in New York, meaning his gaming has been PS Vita-based. Treasures of Montezuma Blitz rewarded him connecting to the server via the US PSN with a welcome back message saying as he hadn’t played the game for 619 days he could have 1.5m crystals and 619 lives.
As TC says, “that’s some bug” as he couldn’t have been playing the game the best part of two years ago. The only other game to get a look in was Resistance Burning Skies. He agrees with TSA’s 6/10 review and says the game is still good enough to be “worth a punt”.
I guess you’ve managed more gaming than we have this week?

I finally started my playthrough of the Uncharted games. Having played Golden Abyss I’ve found the first game really easy to get into with a great story, and I’m now really looking forward to 2 and 3 over the next few weeks. Other than that I finished Starhawk’s single player, which wasn’t as bad as some people made out, and got in a few rounds of Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown. I used my Vita for remote play to repeatedly check for Wednesday’s PSN update and set all the plus stuff downloading but not for playing games this week!

i’ll tell you what i haven’t been playing, my bloody xbox. >_<
i am enjoying infamous 2, it's amazing what they did with the sequel.
Warhammer: Space Marine is great fun too.
it reminds me of gears a bit but really, that resemblance is just visual, instead of the need to be behind cover most of the time you're actually better off going head on the attack against the orcs, running into a group of them and hacking them down with your chainsword,.especially as the way to heal is to perform melee kills.
it gives the game a very different feel to gears.
apart from the fact you can't hide behind waist high walls, hey, these guys are space marines, they don't hide, the shooting handles just like gears.
and it's great to see another game with british actors doing british accents.
fitting as the warhammer universe was created in britain.
Mark Strong does a great job voicing Titus too.
also, the sly cooper hd game, i've never played the original, except maybe in demo form, but it's pretty good from what i've seen so far.
i gave Virtua fighter a try.
it's a good game, but they give you a customisation option then tell you you have to buy everything in it, with real money.
mind you i tried the training mode, some of those combos must be impossible.
there's supposed to be an option to watch the moves being performed when there's a little film icon next to the button guide, but i couldn't find how to get it to work, i tried every button on the pad.
and looking in the help and options menus didn't have any info on how to watch the moves.

After playing a bit of Warhammer yesterday I wasn’t enjoying that much. Played another bit today and loving it. Really enjoyable to play :) Melee combat is great and so is watching a load of orcs blow up from a grenade.
Sitorimon
Ticket to Ride & Ingenious on the PC. Big up the board game/video game transitions lol. Aside from that Showdown, DJ Hero, Project Diva, Mad Racers, Summer Challenge & Winter Stars and finally 100%’d Pacman and just 1 trophy off doing Monopoly Streets platinum. I’m kinda bouncing round about 15-20 games doing 15 minutes on each and it means I get nowhere on any of them. must focus!!!
blast71
Borderlands, yet more PES2012 Master League, bit of Peggle, Kane & Lynch 2 (started it on extreme and been stuck on 1 part for about 3 weeks but REFUSE to lower difficulty out of pride), and Limbo. Hating the spider on it!!!!
2 many commas in this post. ,,,,,,,,
Nitrox
Lol… I replayed Dragon age 1 – Origins…
Enjoyed it on best quality settings etc… but hated some bugs…

Been on holiday this week so I’ve only had my Vita and it’s been great:
Mortal Kombat, Uncharted GA and Escape Plan have all had my attention.
