PSN: Network Down, Store Down

The PlayStation Network is currently down – dead, kaput, not responding. There’s no planned maintenance and this looks like it’s a bit of a surprise to Sony.

“PSN and Stores are currently unavailable,” says a Tweet from the official account. “We’ll let you know as soon as they’re back online.”

The Japanese PSN Status page might hold a little more information, although our translation efforts yield little other than an apology.

There’s meant to be a big content drop today for Modern Warfare.

Update: Sony have now said the PSN is “under maintenance“.

  1. Nevermind…

  2. Signing in fine.

  3. Phew! I had just updated the firmware on my Vita, couldn’t get into the store and panicked. Glad it’s not just me…. :)

  4. Signed in ok, just the store doesn’t work

  5. If there was a content drop, would the outage coincide with U.S timezone based auto updates, for plus subscribers? Presumably the auto update mechanic generates a potential co-ordinated peak load unless users customize the time window.

Good theory at least right? ;)

  6. my ps store is back working was not about a hour ago

  7. this sucks hope its not hacked again

  8. GODDAMIT! Origami Killer, will you please stop downloading everything off the store? as it breaks PSN every time you do that. ;)

Most likely they have just remebered that MW content is out today and have crapped themselves due to the usual surge in traffic that usually happens and are reinforcing the store. But they should have done that last week or let us know if there was going to be maintance today.

  9. It’s up and running now.

    • I take it back. You can log in but when you try to do anything, even as simple as browse, you get disconnected.

  10. I can’t even sign in although my downloads are downloading. I tried signing in but came up with my password has expired and needs changing and then just crashed when I selected to changed password :S

Oh man, hope it’s not hacked again.
