Valkyria Chronicles Returns In Browser Game

Valkyria Chronicles for PS3 was pretty great.

After that the game spawned two sequels on the PSP – one which was very solid and the other which failed to make its way outside of Japan, lamentably. In a bizarre turn, the strategy RPG series is now set to return in Duel, a new browser-based card battler.

The aim of the game is to build up your battalion by collecting cards – up to 200 in total. You can develop your base camp and acquire new troops which can be used to take control of enemy territories.

Check out the trailer released by Sega which demonstrates the full 3D character battles on show in the browser title:

What has been confirmed is that, like most other browser games, the game will feature a micro-transaction system.

  1. Booooo

    • Yeah, boo. I just wanna play the damn third entry in the series, I don’t have a PS3 and I’m not interested in the retarded characters, generic character design and the crappy fanservice that takes away from the immersion of the game. The third one, on the other hand, absolutely looks up my alley and yet we’re not even getting it. It’s so ridiculous that the VC game that appeals most to Westerners(dark and gritty, less fanservice and nonsensical anime fluff) is the only one that we won’t get. They’re basing this decision on VC2 not selling well in the USA, even though VC2 absolutely goes against what most Western gamers care for; there are always exceptions, but for the most part Westerners aren’t as tolerant of anime stupidity as native Japanese.

Sega drove the series into the ground because they made some very stupid decisions, just like how they quit the console market after a few mistakes. Very disappointing.

  2. Shame, this was a fantastic series that has slowly faded into obscurity.

  3. Hey Sega, how about a Vita title instead? Or an HD remaster of the PSP games for PS3 and Vita? Anything but another browsergame, please…

    • Absolutely – or even just make the PSP games compatible with Vita!

      • The second game, or the first psp title, is compatible. But you must buy and download it on a ps3 and transfer it using usb. It’s also rather expensive, but I can’t remember the price.

      • Kenny, VC2 is $40 but there’s a bundle pack that costs $22.25 and comes with the full game and some DLC maps. It’s technically compatible if you have a PS3, but that’s just a slap to the face to people like me who only own a Vita. I can see the game in MediaGo but if I purchase it I won’t be able to download it anyways, that’s pretty effed up. Same with MGS Peace Walker and quite a few other titles I really want, I can see them in MediaGo but I just don’t have the option to play them. Easily the most frustrating thing about the Vita for me.

  4. could be cool, will it ever make it outside japan though?

  5. Why? It’s got a fanbase that are eager for another game and it makes sense to release it either on PS3 or the Vita. Not do a browser game as most people will touch browser games. In fact, this would work on the Vita as a PSN title. So why not do that?
