Rumour: PS3 Firmware 4.20 Releases Tonight

According to a post on GAF, PlayStation 3 system software 4.20 will be released tonight.

The new features include tweaks to the wireless stereo headset options, time-off adjustments and the ability to copy multiple items of save data.

The full rumoured list is as followed:

Wireless Stereo Headset

When the wireless stereo headset (CECHYA-0080) is connected, you can now adjust the sidetone level for microphone audio. Select [Sidetone] under (Settings) > (Accessory Settings) > [Audio Device Settings].

  • Off: Disable microphone audio from the headset
  • 1-5: Enable microphone audio from the headset

Auto Off

You can now set the amount of time until the system automatically turns off. Under (Settings) > (Power Save Settings) > [System Auto-Off] you will be able amend the time for [Video/TV/Music/Photo] and for [Game/Other Features]:

  • Video/TV/Music/Photo – After 1 Hour, After 2 Hours, After 3 Hours, After 4 Hours, After 5 Hours, Off
  • Game/Other Features – After 1 Hour, After 2 Hours, After 3 Hours, After 4 Hours, After 5 Hours, Off

If you enabled [System Auto-Off] in system software prior to version 4.20, the selected time will be set for both [Video/TV/Music/Photo] and [Game/Other Features].

The default settings are [After 4 Hours] for [Video/TV/Music/Photo] and [After 1 Hour] for [Game/Other Features].

Save Game Selection

Under (Games) > (Saved Data Utility (PS3™), you can now select multiple saved data items, and then either delete or copy them as a group.

  • You cannot use [Copy Multiple] to select data that is copy-protected.
  • Some saved data cannot be copied.
  • The upper right corner of the screen displays: the number of saved data items that are selected, the total number of saved data items and the total file size of the saved data items that are selected.

We’ll let you know if any other hidden features sneak through.

  1. I was kinda hoping that the next firmware update would show Vita trophies on your PS3 profile and also show what/when people are playing on Vita.

    • From what I heard on a podcast it is not coming soon if at all.

  2. Ability to copy multiple saves – can’t believe that took so long but it’s a welcome addition.

  3. Useless update. Add the ability to see Vita trophies on PS3.

  4. I think they need to up the cloud game save storage space to 250mb, cause I’m at the stage where I cannot backup my saves, which kinda defeats the purpose of the system

  5. nice got that new Sony headset on the way as well.

    • Tiz a nice headset…enjoy ;)

    • like @OnlineAssassin77 says it is great headset. I’m glad there also doing an auto shut off on there because I just sometimes assume I’ve turned them off but haven’t and next time I’m very angry I gotta charge again.

  6. When I back up my PS3, it takes about 20 hours. Is there anyway to just back up the changes, rather than delete and back up the lot every month?

  7. The block select for save data is a godsend for PES modders.

    • Not wrong there. I love how easy it is to get the full kit option files, but I think last season’s file by GTM – with the all the kits, stadiums (stadia?), adding in the NPower Championship and the Bundesliga – was something like 500 files to copy across. FUN.

  8. But we STILL can’t organise games alphabetically. What a joke.

  9. Would be nice if this is correct as ive had the sony 7.1 stereo headset for awhile an the only downside to it is the mic is locked to go no higher than 3 on the volume settings like the the sony bluetooth headset when that was first released and ive had the odd person tell me its a bit low while talking so hopefully this is just what i require. :)

  10. Finally a update to fix the “buzzing” introduced in the official stereo headset after the introduction of sidetones in 4.10.

    • Ive not really had any buzzing before or since that update only thing i get is if its silent and im not listening to music or gaming i can hear people chatting and other things sometimes if ive got window open as its amplified but dont really notice it if im using it while gaming or with music.
