It’s the last PSN Store update in June. Following the disappointing showing for the Vita at E3, the past couple of weeks have been good to the handheld. Last week saw Lego Batman 2 following up Gravity Rush’s arrival the previous week and today we’re getting the long-awaited free YouTube application and a certain PlayStation legend is sneaking onto Vita too in the Metal Gear Solid HD collection.
It’s not all about the Vita’s recovery though, there’s some goodies for Gran Turismo 5 in the shape of the Twin Ring Motegi Pack. That’s two different tracks – an oval and a road track – which have a total of four different configurations.
Motegi is a firm fan favourite in GT circles so it’s likely to be a welcome addition for €4.99/£3.99. Perhaps you’ll race around it in your free downloadable Toyota FR-S, also available from the store today?

First
Still no walking dead episode 2 :/
SpikeyMikey23
really? a ‘First’ post?………..
Spaaarky
troll
SpikeyMikey23
HAHAHAHA good one
Spaaarky
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum
thats what you did
Forrest_01
Actually, no – That’s what you did by typing ‘first’.
Spaaarky
i was first to comment, therefore it was afirst post, that is not trolling, that is stating a fact, i didnt not just write first, i wrote about a game not being on the store
BrendanCalls
so errr, yeah…we don’t do that here
BrendanCalls
that wasn’t supposed to come across as arsey as it read’s sorry for that, just saying we don’t really do that
The Lone Steven
Really? Spike is a “troll? If he is, then he is the world’s worst troll in all of recorded history. You should see what goes on at IGN as they have real trolls.
Plus a first post is against the rules. The rules did use to be under the comment before you post.
Origami Killer
Steven is right, posting “first” is against the posting T&C’s of TSA ;)
Spaaarky
i read through the whole of the terms and conditions and didnt see anything about not being allowed to say first
Forrest_01
It’s not in the T’s & C’s to my knowledge – The general posting ‘rules’ (which were more like guidelines) used to be under the comment box when you posted as Steve pointed out, but i think that these have not returned from when the site was updated to the new format recently.
So yes, you weren’t to know as such, but that sort of thing isn’t really welcomed here. It isn’t productive & doesn’t add to the discussion in any way & some people see it as more annoying than anything. 36 likes of SpikeyMikeys query of it should tell you something.
I personally have never understood the whole ‘first’ thing anyway if i am honest, as i am not sure why it matters, nor who it matters to. Doesn’t make a difference if you post first or last as far as i can see as no comment carries more weight purely based upon when it was posted..
Anyway, this isn’t to get at you, just to let you know really – Whats done is done so no point stressing over it, but i would try to avoid stuff like that where possible. :)
Spaaarky
thanks for the reply forrest, i havent been posting long and didnt see anything about not being allowed to post first but as i have now been told i will not post it in the future
1 thing though, you say about it getting annoying? I find it annoying when a story about ps3 maintenance is post and the 1st or 2nd comment always says cross game chat, now that is annoying
Forrest_01
Yes, yes it is. :)
However, cross game chat (or xgc as it also known!) is generally brought up as a joke round these parts now due to its ridiculousness. So you might see that, but you’ll find that it is generally in jest.
Back when the PS3 was still ‘fresh’ & firmware updates brought along a wealth of new features, people used to enquire about it & that was fair enough. However, some people still bang on about it on the official PS forums even after being told that it isn’t coming, so now some members just mention it as a joke, or TSA meme if you prefer.
Usually still prompts a few groans though. :)
Mundham
It’s out on Friday, dunno why the differing date than the rest of the releases.
colmshan1990
Not in Europe, as confirmed on the blog right here:
http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2012/06/27/heads-up-game-store-update-27th-june-2012/#comment-235919
cnutard
Sigh. One of the reasons I enjoy the TSA community is because we don’t have to put up with a bunch of children (or adults that act like children) posting ‘first’ comments.
Please don’t invite your friends here ;)
Mike
I was going to ask if you were new here but you’ve been registered since Sep 2011.
Best not to do the whole ‘First’ thing.
skibadee
really good update, good prices on the full games as well.
Peter Chapman
I noticed the decent pricing. Spec Ops is really tempting as a download at that price…
FRUIT0FDOOM
I nearly had a heart attack when I read a new release priced on par with retail! After reading TSA review the only question now is download or wait ’til Friday and weekly ASDA shop :-/
Hopefully a sign of things to come, keep to these sensible prices and I shall certainly be purchasing digital copies.
HoboCastro
Bioshock! I’ll get that. SpecOps The Line is a great price.
skibadee
if you can wait it comes free with BioShock Infinite.
HoboCastro
Cool. Thanks for the heads up.
RudeAwakening
I actually thought Spec Ops is at a terrible price for a digital copy the max i would expect would be €48-€50!
skibadee
£39.99 considering some of the awful prices of late very good for UK.
DixNeuf
Excellent price for Metal Gear HD, undercuts web the cheapest retail price! Makes that a definite download for me.
SpikeyMikey23
Someone wake up the Australians to tell them the Great news – Homefront has come to PSN for a bargain price………
SpikeyMikey23
Also, MGS:HD is not a bad price on the store, considering its a few quid dearer in the shops. Anyone know how big the D/L is? Just bought an 8gb memory card but don’t want to fill it up. may be better to pay the extra pound for the physical copy
Ossy
I believe it’s just under 4gb, which is the reason I had to order off ShopTo as my 16gb card is already full.
SpikeyMikey23
Cheers, I’ll buy the physical version as i can see the 8gb card filling up with some of the sale items
ico
Always better to get the physical copy if not much more as it grants you a box to smell (sorry, bit weird that) and sell-on-ability which I don’t often invoke but nice to have the option when times are hard.
HoboCastro
Bargain! I bet they are over joyed that it was £8 for PS+ in UK a few months ago.
Origami Killer
Jesus Christ – 20GB for each Uncharted! And I thought InFamous 2 was taking the piss.
uncharted86
And you need double the free space to be able to install them, which is pretty ridiculous.
teflon
It is and it isn’t. What you’re downloading from PSN is an installer file, which then has all the game data copied out of itself to the HDD and is then deleted by the system, leaving you with the final game installed.
It does the job just fine, and is a system that has been used for decades, but it’s very inefficient as game sizes balloon on consoles that often have very limited space. It’s certainly something that needs to be looked at and addressed for the next generation, but is far too heavily ingrained in the PS3’s infrastructure to be changed at this stage.
colmshan1990
Even the iPad does it, really hate that system (although it’s always the most stable and safe way of installing something).
liampaulmassey
Do you mean when the game has downloaded and installed only 20GB of my HDD memory will be used and not 40GB?
HoboCastro
I’m amazed they got it under 20GB to be honest.
Origami Killer
When I think about it now, I am too, still would never download these
HoboCastro
If I hadn’t played it then I’d download 20GB. I can’t be arsed with discs anymore.
jimmy-google
Evidence if you ever needed to it as to why the digital age of gaming is still a way off. 20GB a time for probably the best games on the ps3, and that will only increase with with the next gen.
2 games would eat most people’s internet usage for the month.
Origami Killer
I like downloads and would rather have a collection of them but my internet prefers discs :P
Forrest_01
It’s not even just the bandwidth you have to consider either – There is no way i could get a 20GB game on My HDD, even if i stripped out a lot of the utility data.
skibadee
if you can get the 1TB harddrive have over 600gb on my PS3 still to use.
Forrest_01
See, people always suggest a larger HDD (which does makes sense, given the comment granted), but the thing is i wouldn’t just need a new internal HDD, i would also need to buy an external HDD as well.
Its a good suggestion, but when you have to buy two HDDs just to ensure you keep all your data (& not even all of it at that), its never going to be a possibility for me.
colmshan1990
Does the 1TB drive actually allow you to have 1TB?
I think they used to have an upper limit on drive sizes, do they still do that?
skibadee
I had about 920gb after install I think maybe a bit more.
cc_star
@colmshan1990
The PS3 doesn’t have a capacity limit, you just need to make sure it’s a 9.5mm 2.5″ HDD you buy
If you have a size in mind you then just need to wiegh up whether it’s worth paying a slight bit extra to get a drive that runs at 7200rpm, rather than the standard 5400rpm for a bit fast access time… & then if you’ve got the money spare whether it’s worth getting a hybrid drive which pairs up a 4GB SSD with it for even faster access.
This Digital Foundry article pulls out all the facts & figures.
Think I’m going for a 750GB 7200rpm drive, seems to be the sweet-spot in pricing, capacity & speed.
Youles
Apparently the 7200 is no different (I certainly didn’t notice any difference when I had mine), but apparently they are more likely to make your PS3 overheat.
Youles
Hmm, it’s apparent that I might have over-used the work apparently.
Youles
*word not work. Oh bother.
colmshan1990
Good to know.
I’m going to have to upgrade (again) soon.
My 40gb became a 320gb a year or two ago, it’s going to have to grow again.
PS+ is relentless.

My 320GB is down to 60GB now, may upgrade soon but cba with all the copying of the files and games.

…& that right there is the issue – I would need an external HDD to copy all (but not ALL) of the OS/files onto. I would then need to change over the internal HDD for a larger one, of course copying the OS/files back onto it from the external.
Too much time effort & expense for the sake of not deleting a few utility save files.

Me thinks i need a new HDD also when i can afford it as my 320Gb is now at 15Gb and ive had to remove stuff just to get other stuff on it i was down into megabytes at one point.

Ahh – so much stuff!! Gravity Rush DLC, GT5 DLC, possibly the Resident Evil stuff, YouTube App. Didn’t even know some of that was coming out TSA!! :p
Pretty pissed about The Walking Dead, this is “late June” and the last update of the month. Not to mention there was no “monthly” episode last month.
Great to see Sony’s pricing of MGS HD….although I’m happy to have given ShopTo a further £2.85 to save memory card space, and the option to re-sell.

Regarding Walking Dead, see my post in Spaarky’s thread (basically it comes out on Friday).

Thought we might be seeing the Twin Ring Motegi in GT5 as it was in GT academy. Glad to see it as the road track is one of my favs.

Surely this has to be the best update in years.
Great (correct) prices for a full game. Youtube App, a few DLCs man I am running really low on my memory space *gulp*
