Well, we sure didn’t see this one coming.
Activision, the big-name publisher behind Call of Duty, has announced The Walking Dead Video Game. Not to be confused with Telltale’s comic-inspired adventure series, Activision’s punt at the popular zombie-infested license will take the form of a first person shooter, developed by Terminal Reality.
That’s right, the same team that brought us Kinect Star Wars.
Unlike Telltale’s critically-praised episodic affair, this newest game will lean heavily towards the AMC TV series, which is fantastic by the way. Set prior to the events of the first series, players will follow the exploits of Daryl Dixon and his brother, Merle. Neither character is represented particularly well in the TV show, at least not in the first series.
Daryl may be aiding Rick and his band of survivors though clearly has his own agenda. Merle on the other hand plays up to your typical hill-billy archetype, his flagrant racism somehow making him the perfect protagonist for this latest Activision joint.
Unfavourable characteristics aside, it’s clear why the Dixon brother were chosen to helm their own Walking Dead video game. With Daryl’s crossbow skills and Merle’s grit and brutality, they could easily give Kane and Lynch a run for their money.
There’s little else to go on at this moment in time. Terminal Reality have been talking up a few key features the game will include, such as item/resource management and interactive NPCs. Due for a 2013 release, don’t expect to wait too long for a full gameplay reveal.

Looks pretty good. Daryl is probably my favourite character in the series and i hope you use some of his skills like tracking and stealth. Aslong as it isnt turned into all out action it’ll could be good.

Well hopefully they might be able to make a game without complete frame rate failure. Telltales episode 2 was a really good story but how are you supposed to experience that with all the ridiculous stopping and starting crashing and bumping.
When I heard they were making a walking dead game this is what I acutally thought they meant, its linear to the tv show, involved characters in the tv show and be a shooter. I’m not saying the telltale game is rubbish, but seriously what were they thinking releasing a game with such issues?
I’m actualy a big fan of Daryl, not got much time for his nazi brother but we will see.

Im only touching this if I see that Robert Kirkman and the rest have had their input and approval. Games of already existing content whilst putting their own spin on it can be hit and miss.

actually neither Daryl or Meryl were Kirkmans creation – they aren’t in the comics, just made for telly…so maybe Kirkman did say no but AMC said yes
