Well, we sure didn’t see this one coming.
Activision, the big-name publisher behind Call of Duty, has announced The Walking Dead Video Game. Not to be confused with Telltale’s comic-inspired adventure series, Activision’s punt at the popular zombie-infested license will take the form of a first person shooter, developed by Terminal Reality.
That’s right, the same team that brought us Kinect Star Wars.
Unlike Telltale’s critically-praised episodic affair, this newest game will lean heavily towards the AMC TV series, which is fantastic by the way. Set prior to the events of the first series, players will follow the exploits of Daryl Dixon and his brother, Merle. Neither character is represented particularly well in the TV show, at least not in the first series.
Daryl may be aiding Rick and his band of survivors though clearly has his own agenda. Merle on the other hand plays up to your typical hill-billy archetype, his flagrant racism somehow making him the perfect protagonist for this latest Activision joint.
Unfavourable characteristics aside, it’s clear why the Dixon brother were chosen to helm their own Walking Dead video game. With Daryl’s crossbow skills and Merle’s grit and brutality, they could easily give Kane and Lynch a run for their money.
There’s little else to go on at this moment in time. Terminal Reality have been talking up a few key features the game will include, such as item/resource management and interactive NPCs. Due for a 2013 release, don’t expect to wait too long for a full gameplay reveal.

What the hell is going on I’m confused.

Another zombie game… pass…
Getting tired of all the zombie games lately.

Sweet, I’ve watched series 1 and 2 of The Walking Dead over the last week and Daryl is probably one of my favorite characters… Er… Left :P Hope this is good though. If it stays true to the show it’ll be stealthy as the walkers are attracted by sound. That’s backed up by the fact the Daryl is a protagonist; with the crossbow and all. Can’t wait for some gameplay ;) Colour me excited for now.

Sounds like Black Ops 2s zombie mode will be standalone.

Oh god no. Please don’t turn this into all out action. The Walking Dead is about so much more than just blowing zombies heads off.

Exciting.

” item/resource management and interactive NPCs” sounds like something along the lines of Dead Island. Looking at Terminal Reality’s history on wiki i’m not really sure what to expect, but i suspect this won’t have much similarity to the cod zombie game.

If it’s similar to Dead Island, it could be great. I read that there are stealth elements, so I don’t expect a COD clone either (well, at least I hope it’s not one).
Terminal Reality also made the Ghostbusters video game, which was great. I’m more concerned that Activision is the publisher. We all know how well they support non-COD titles (e.g. Singularity or Prototype).

NO NO NO NO NO
I love The Walking Dead (season 2 started weak ala Little House on the Prairie but the pay off was worth it)
Merle as much as I love Michael Rooker he will always be Henry (Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer) even in Mallrats I was OMG they gave Henry dysentery. Daryl is one of my favourite characters but I do not want Activision to butcher that.
Activision thinks The Walking Dead is about nothing more than killing zombies (it’s not). Activision wants to follow the TV show typical they’ll take a condensed or reworked version to be condensed even more that has no meaning other than kill count.
More importantly sticking Daryl with Meryl never once realizing that Daryl has grown as a character by not being dominated by his brother…maybe why Michael Rooker was cast and then gone early in the 1st season. So essentially it’s a game where a domineering brother manipulates and controls his younger sibling (Activision won’t use that – they’ll be 2 southern gung ho rednecks ala 2000 Maniacs meets Deliverance with Smokey and the Bandit bravado.
As a fan of The Walking Dead I won’t be buying it. I won’t put money in Activision’s pocket, Jane’s Addiction once sang “Cash In Now” yep

sounds great love the series.

I’m actually looking forward to this. Terminal Reality don’t have a clean track record, but surely some of the Acitivision’s own studios will help support development. Shooters are what they do best, right?
I’ve yet to play the Telltale games. I find it both odd and exciting that I can approach The Walking Dead from two angles.
