Gazillion Entertainment have recently announced Johnny Storm, a.k.a The Human Torch, as its eighteenth playable character in upcoming online RPG, Marvel Heroes. Aside from a brief bio the developer has also included a graphic, outlining what to expect from the Fantastic Four’s hothead, at least in terms of gameplay.
Marvel Heroes isn’t your traditional comic-inspired massively multiplayer game, both its premise and execution. Unlike so many similar games -City of Heroes, Champions Online, and DC Universe to name the big three- are centred around creating your own unique hero. However, in Gazillion’s Diablo-like online action RPG, you adopt the role of existing, pre-built heroes, an interesting take to say the least.

Might be a cool game to play, will check it out if its a bit similar to X-Men legends and the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games.
Flame on! damnit.. I burnt my toast.

Sounds odd, I’m intrigued to see how they’ll work it as I think that was the main reason DCO took the direction it did.

it would be nice to have the option to create your own hero, but if they include enough characters from the comics, and if they have access to every one then that has to be a few hundred, then you should still be able to find a character that matches the way you want to play the game.
mind you, one of the things i liked about the dc mmo was you get to be a new hero, or villain, and fight alongside these legendary characters, help Superman to defeat Brainiac or help Luthor with some diabolical scheme.
it’s not quite the same if you’re playing, say, Batman.
i wonder if each character will have their own story or if it’ll just be small variations in a main story to account for the character you choose.
like how they do it in the ultimate alliance games, where you’ll get some extra dialogue options when you’re playing certain characters at certain points.
one of my favourites was playing Sue as anti registration when she confronted Reed about his part in the civil war.
anyway, i can’t wait to give this a try.
