GTAIII Coming to PlayStation 3 Next Week

Do you listen to the PlayStation BlogCast? I don’t, it’s entirely too serious for me. I should though, it’s quite informative. Take this week’s show, for example. About eleven minutes in, they casually toss in the information that Grand Theft Auto III is coming to the US PSN Store next Tuesday.

They then spend ages talking about another PS2 Classic, War of the Monsters, which is coming at the same time.

I’ve spent the last week playing GTAIII on an Android tablet and it’s still brilliant, ageing control quirks aside. This version appears to be a direct drop of the PS2 game, rather than the 10 year anniversary edition which hit mobile platforms. Presumably that means it won’t have the updated textures or new user interface but the gameplay should still be solid.

GTA: Chinatown Wars is being enabled for the PS Vita, too.Hopefully this is paving the way for Vice City and San Andreas to also appear on the PSN Store.

  1. Boring. My PS3 can already play PS2 games and honestly they dont look too good on a HDTV. Rather have a HD remake of VC with trophies.

  3. Could’ve been so much more. I still have a ps2 hooked up and GTA3 on the shelf. I’d be a fool to spend money on this.

    Remastered trilogy with trophies, please.

  4. an HD remake of GTAIII, Vice City, San Andreas even Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories would be brilliant – but I still have all the PS2 discs so I don’t think I’ll pick up GTAIII just because its playable on my PS3 – after all PS2 games look crap on an HD telly (hence why I have a retro corner upstairs complete with an old CRT telly for all my retro gaming needs)

  5. Disappointed not a HD revamp. Correct me if i’m wrong, but I thought S.Andreas in Xbox Marketplace was an HD ver.

    • oooh, I don’t think it is. I think it’s just a straight port of the Xbox version? Might need to make sure now though…

      • I think your right & as you said, solid gameplay regardless.
