Confirmed on the official blog for the game, developer Rocket says that Bohemia Interactive will be in charge, with himself as project lead.
“Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game,” he says, “so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so.”
“The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price.”
“I realize people will have many, many questions,” Rocket added, “but we wanted to let everyone know the announcement now. Over the coming weeks, these questions will be answered.”

Hopefully they’ll iron out all the annoying little niggles.

I was enjoying this game a lot when I was playing it but I dont like the sound of having to pay more money again to play it in the future after I already bought ARMA II and Operation Arrowhead for it.
Burgess_101
Its a mod though what do you expect? You would have had to pay again anyway if they moved over to ARMA III.
AG2297
I certainly dont expect to pay for a mod. DLC, yes, I did buy Operation Arrowhead to allow me to access this mod but to pay for the mod as well is too much for me and the people I was playing it with.
Burgess_101
Its not a mod any more though that’s the point aha. Its not like ARMA:OA is made to play DayZ, its a mod. You are still left with ARMA to play with after the mods support has been completely halted and all resources moved to the standalone.

I’ve seen footage of Dayz and to be honest, there is nothing to do except try and survive. I understand that trying to survive is interesting but i think they will pad it out in the stand alone game and will implent a plot as well as new things. Hopefully, they will add some new things to the gameplay. :)

Have you ever listened to the Roosterteeth podcast. At the end of their latest one (I think) they have an interview with the developer of DayZ. He says he doesn’t want an “end game” but he does want there to be something else other than just survival. They’ve realised that that can get boring after awhile. So there will be some padding out. :)

Yeah that’s what I was going to bring up, he sounded like he had plans for it being a standalone, just couldn’t announce it at the time, I can’ wait for this hopefully my laptop or PC can handle it, I haven’t bought Arma 2 yet so I think I’ll hold off for this now.

I hope they have a new engine that isnt buggy as hell for it
MayContainEvil
Yeah if we have to pay for the same game again then they better make sure it is at least much more stable than it currently is.

when i first heard about DayZ, i thought it had something to do with JayZ. ^_^
it does look kind of interesting, but from what i’ve seen the Arma II interface is a bit, well, shit.
if they can fix that they could be on to a winner.
Forrest_01
I got 99 problems, but the undead aint one.
Nate
You sir, are a legend.
rht992
Awesome. Loved the look of it and if they could flesh it out with a little bit more it could be a winner
RudeAwakening
Think they might be a bit late to turn it into a fully stand alone game since another game called ‘The War Z’ is pretty much the same game and almost out.
Burgess_101
People that played and loved DayZ will be guaranteed to buy it. I feel they decided to announce the game now because they know they have a big enough fanbase.
