Microsoft has announced that there’s finally a point to massive Achievement scores, something we always thought Sony would do with their trophy system.
To get started, activate the Rewards system on your Xbox account, and then you’re good to go. If you’ve got between 3,000 and 10,000 Gamerscore you’ll get a little birthday treat (although it’s largely pointless), however, a score of between 10,000 and 25,000 gets you a 1% rebate on Live purchases. A neat idea, but a long time coming.
Even better, if you’ve got over 25,000 Gamerscore, you’ll get 2% of what you spend back each month. It’s applicable to most Marketplace purchases, including Games On Demand, Arcade games, DLC and various avatar items.
The percentages might be small, but every little counts, right?

It’s a shame the discounts/cashback aren’t more in line with the discounts we get from PS+ – it’s a step in the right direction though, and perhaps it’ll set them up to do something more substantial in the future…

just buy your points cards from tesco and you get 1% back.
i might even have 25k points by now, and i’m pretty shit at most game, no plats and not looking likely to ever get one and i’m a long way from getting 100% score on any xbox game either.
mind you i don’t spend anywhere near enough on live to gain any real benefit from this.
not even when i had a working xbox.
a nice, if small, benefit for those who do though.
