Following in the footsteps of Battlefield 3, developer Danger Close has confirmed the Xbox 360 version of Medal of Honor: Warfighter will be split across two discs.
Senior designer Ben Jones confirmed the news:
I think that might be a reality for us as well, it’s DVD format versus Blu-ray and you’re going to see that split at certain times, especially with the amount of content that we’re delivering.
Given that Warfighter is built on the Frostbite 2 engine, the same engine used in Battlefield 3, this shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise. It is yet to be confirmed whether, like Battlefield, an HD texture install will be required although we think it’s highly likely.
Disc swapping isn’t too much of a hassle, especially if the split is simply one disc for the campaign and one disc for multiplayer. That being said, is it something that would lead you to choose one platform over another?

Ah blu ray, I wonder what it’s like to stop a game to switch disc, I haven’t done that since well never :p
fattyuk
I have vague memories of doing it on the ps1 15 years ago?

I’m playing mgs4 u know the bit after you fight crying wolf, then otacon rings you to change to disc 2 that made me laugh then he was like oh we on Playstation 3 blu ray ha!
I wonder how many disc to play the new Mgs on xbox
fattyuk
Who needs blu rays ay?! all about hd DVD!
jaksmakndaxter
I do wish I had an HD-DVD player and some of its discs. Those are collector’s items,if nothing else.

It’s not that I would mind swapping discs, as I have done many times on games like Panzer Dragoon Saga, but doesn’t mean Ilook forward to it. By default (Idon’t own a 360 yet) , the PS3 version is the one for me, but I may have picked PS3 anyway even if I did have a 360

Well, games tend to be bigger than 9GB nowadays, even after compression. So this’ll be multiplayer on the second disc. Next gen is all about blu ray, or vinyl.
bmg_123
I think vinyl would suit the new PS3 super slim…
damoxuk
Console will have to be fairly hefty to allow Vinyl to be inserted or maybe it’s a top loader :)

“especially with the amount of content that we’re delivering.”
yea yea whatever if this fails to deliver both my fekin discs will be flying out the window…

Does no one remember that practically any decent length game on a PC used to need discs swapped?

swapping discs isn’t that annoying, unless you have to swap, and then swap back. >_<
i certainly wouldn't choose the format based on that, unless that was the only difference between the two version.
free multiplayer is a bigger factor in choosing which format i buy on.

Given most people will play the half-baked single player once and then stick around for the multiplayer I can’t see this being a problem (not that I plan on buying it after the terrible MoH 2010)
Bilbo_bobbins
snap, those who buy this after playing that game need their head checked. We’ve had hardly any gameplay of SP and no MP and its 3 weeks away. That says something.

I loved MoH 2010, and particularly enjoyed the single player. I certainly don’t think it was half baked, found it more enjoyable than CoD single player.
leeroye
It certaintly was half baked. The released one patch for it and thats it, it was never supported properly as it was just a cash in between BF games.
The spawn raping is terrible on it and still remains. Its a shame as the game had some good ideas, the devs just never gave a monkeys about support for it or its customers.

I’ve got to be honest, swapping discs would really piss me off. Probably only because I’m not used to it, but I can’t even be arsed to swap discs to put a new game in these days, I usually play whatever’s in or whatever’s on my HDD. I’ll be quite happy when we go download only.
TSBonyman
You’ll probably only have to swap the disc once. Hard to believe we put up with the ‘endless’ disk-swapping for some games in the Amiga days.
