Microsoft Points may finally be on the way out, as Windows 8 allows users to pay for movies and music with good old fashioned real world money.
Microsoft Points have never been particularly popular, with points being sold in incremental chunks users are often forced to purchase more than they initially require. This is particularly frustrating on Xbox 360 where almost everything costs either 800 or 1200 points, yet gamers only have the option of purchasing 500, 1000, and 2000 point bundles on Xbox LIVE.
It should be noted that, as of today, Microsoft is yet to confirm the change will be coming to Xbox 360 or Windows Phone. With that being said, we still expect an announcement in the not too distance future from the platform holder.
Will you be glad to see the back of Microsoft Points?

I don’t know why MS points have lasted so long. everyone I know hates them.
I hope MS let you cash in the ones you’ve already purchased when (if) they change to proper currency.

I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t even have made half of my PSN purchases if Sony had a stupid point system in place. It’s obvious why the price games around the 800 and 1200 points mark while only selling points in chunks of 500s and 1000s.
I would have imagined people would have stood up to it from the get go.

Why do you mention Windows Phone? Never used MSP on that one, in fact the only option i had was the cc

Providing they offer alternatives to me giving Microsoft my CC data (i.e. voucher codes from places like amazon and GAME) I don’t really care. After Sony’s screw up I’m not going down that route again.

Points or not, Microsoft or Sony. Either way I feel my details will never be safe with either of them. Which is why I haven’t bought anything from PSN since they got hacked and I had money taken from my account.
a inferior race
I quite liked points as the exchange rate is consistent across the board as 800mp is the price of the product anywhere.
