Mixed News For Sony From Japan

“Sony dominate sales chart,” is one possible story emanating from Japan following the release of last week’s sales figures. It’s true, Sony’s software was flying off the shelves with eight software titles in the top ten. That would only be a half truth though as Sony’s hardware is a distant second to Nintendo’s handheld, the 3DS and its larger screened variant the 3DS XL.

Although weekly sales are only a snapshot, the 3DS has been a runaway success since its price-cut prior to the Vita’s release. Whilst Sony’s handheld has fared less well in comparison, with even the now aging PSP consistently and comfortably outselling it. The success of the 3DS and the continued long-tail of the PSP almost seem to indicate that buyers are being guided by price, isn’t that a shock?

You can see both the hardware and software sales below, with this week’s ‘only in Japan’ award going to – The Idolmaster: Shiny Festa – Honey Sound / Funky Note / Groovy Tune.

  1. World soccer winning eleven that’s pro right if so what a redicilous name lol

Whatever happen to yakuza HD coming out Europe

  2. What a surprise eh?

    • Shocker.

Criticism aside, there’s some good value bundles around this Christmas quarter, but they don’t get the attention like a headline lower price point does.

  3. I had to digest that twice to understand. Wow… kudos to Sony for dominating the charts but when does the gimpy cousin get to feature in it?

    Poor Vita.

  4. Vita seriously needs a price cut in my opinion, I’ve no doubt it’s worth it’s price but it does seem over-priced compared to a 3DS? Even if the price was closer to the 3DSXL, then I’d seriously think about getting one.

  5. WHOA, thats gotta hurt, psp selling more than vita.

    meh can’t say i;m suprised tho, had a psp for 6 years_______legendary.

  6. Everything to do with Vita, needs a price cut. *sighs*

    • It’s a little bit like they created a great appealing product and accessories (and games?) and highly unappealing prices.
