Mirror’s Edge 2 In Production, DICE At The Helm Claims Former EA Manager

Mirror’s Edge, the late 2008 PS3 and Xbox 360 title that saw protagonist Faith leaping from building to building dodging bullet fire, is to get a sequel.

The rumours have been surfacing for some time, but today ngmoco’s Benjamin Cousins has all but confirmed that DICE are well into developing the second game, with EA to publish.

“It is general knowledge in the Stockholm dev scene,” he said on Twitter this morning, “that Mirror’s Edge 2 is in production at DICE.”

Cousins was, last year, the recipient of an angry letter from EA reminding him about the disclosure of EA’s secrets. Presumably he’s right in that it’s generally known in Stockholm…

Whether or not the game will be targeted at next-gen, we’ll just have to see.

  1. This is the best news I’ve heard in weeks! Loved Mirror’s Edge! Also, doesn’t this mean that the rumours of this game running on Frostbite 2 are true?! :D

  2. Great news!

I hope they don’t do anything stupid trying to cram more multiplayer in though, so they can make more money from online passes.

    • I wouldn’t mind a few races or something like that, but anything else.. boo!

  3. please, have a third person option, platforming in first person sucks, true ME got closest to making it work than any other game has done, but still, it was clunky.

and i’d like to be able to play it without wanting to throw up.

  4. I would be pleased that it’s in development but i know it will focus on shooting and have little to no focus on the parkour aspect. Oh and tacked on MP as well as 90GB patch on day 1. Along with the texture DLC.

Also, EA are allowing DICE to develop a game that is not BF related? :O

  5. :)

Probably next gen, although EA’ll want as many sales as possible which might mean this generation.

Either way, keep the free running core and art design, improve melee combat and don’t focus TOO much on weapons and we’re good.

  6. This is truly excellent news. Loved the first one and it’s original idea. As others have said if they stay true to the original free running concept and make sure the game can be completed without weapons it’ll be a day one purchase for me.
