This is too precious to save for tomorrow’s Snatch as the White House and the freshly inaugurated President Obama have been petitioned to “Get Ninja Theory’s DmC: Devil May Cry pulled off the shelves.”
“Dear Mr. Obama,” begins the petition, “As a consumer to the Video Game Industry there is one Video Game that has caused a lot of controversy over the past few month’s.”
Yes, it’s called Hitman: Absolution, and it’s “months,” plural, no need for that apostrophe.
“The name of the game is DmC: Devil May Cry made by Ninja Theory and Capcom. A majority of gamer’s are aggravated that this game has changed so much from it’s past predecessors and the game actually insults the consumers in-game.”
Another errant apostrophe in “gamers,” but we’ll move on. Read that again. DmC: Devil May Cry insults gamers for being different to its predecessors. You couldn’t make it up.
“We, as consumers did not want nor need this reboot…” fair enough, you’re allowed to express your opinion…
“…and we believe it violates our rights to have a choice between the original’s or the reboot…” but not if your opinion is stupid. Also, original’s what? Did you mean “originals”?
It violates your rights to have a choice? In America of all places, where you can choose from twenty different pancake toppings before your day even properly begins?
“This game is violating our rights as a consumer and we believe it should be pulled off shelves from game stores due to it’s insulting nature and the fact that it violates our rights,” concludes the petition, making sure that Obama knows that gamers rights are being violated by mentioning it twice in one sentence. And throwing in another spare apostrophe there, as if there weren’t enough in the world already.
The petition needs 100,000 signatures before February 19th to be considered by President Obama.
At present it has eight.

This is simultaneously the most infuriating and hilarious thing I’ve ever heard.
I assume the insult they’re referring to is the scene in the first level where the white wig falls on New Dante, he sees himself in the mirror and says “Not in a million years?”
I wanted to give everyone at Ninja Theory a high five after seeing that. Well done them for sticking with their original vision and not caving in to idiotic fans like Sucker Punch did when they redesigned Cole for Infamous 2, or BioWare did for the Mass Effect 3 ending (which I haven’t seen but I refuse to believe it’s as bad as everyone makes it out to be).

this is a new one.
suing isn’t enough, scoring it zero isn’t enough, now they want the game banned by presidential decree because they don’t like the direction they went with it.
i mean, i hated the direction they went with that Xcom fps, but i’d never think of trying to get the game banned.
i’d just badmouth it on n4g and not buy it. ^_^

I want this to get enough signatures for a response, just so the White House can write “first amendment” in block caps across a single page.

I was annoyed when i saw the new dante but seeing as DMC is said to be quite decent and not completely unlikable, i got over the redesign in appearance and personality. But to try and get the game banned just because of it, it bloody stupid.
What is it with gamers and wanting to sue/ban/change stuff that they don’t like nowadays? First the mass overreaction of ME3’s weak ending now this. I would have thought it would have been because of the demon/angel theme and it was Ned Flanders who was trying to get it ban. Stupid Flanders.

oh diddly.

How sad do you have to be to do that? People haven’t got anything better to do in their life I guess.

Wow. Actually: wow wee!
Reading the headline, I thought people were doing this in the belief that scary-ass violent video games have had an impact on the number of scary-ass violent current events in America.
But asking the President of the United States to remove a game from circulation because they don’t like the reboot?! Err, yeah, I’m sure he’ll get right on that! Forget about the fiscal cliff, tottering economy, world peace and questionable gun laws…just focus on what’s important!
And what do they even mean when they say it violates their choice? Isn’t shutting up and not buying the game a choice for them?
I hope for humanity’s sake that this was intended for the President of Capcom and just found its way to Obama by mistake!
End rant.
