Tecmo KOEI’s flagship hack n’ slash franchise will return for an 8th numbered instalment, the publisher announced overnight. Dynasty Warriors 8 will be launching on July 12th for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 with no mention of a Wii U version.
From what we’ve seen and heard from Japan (where the game launched in February) there have been no big changes. Fans can look forward to yet more euphoric hack n’ slash action with a few updates here and there to keep the franchise looking fresh.
Among these improvements are a handful of new officers, an even deeper Story Mode and improved mechanics for the game’s player vs. general battles.
Understandably Tecmo KOEI have kept quiet about what they have planned further down the road. Given their recent track record it’s likely that the publisher will continue to expand Dynasty Warriors 8 via DLC and perhaps the usual Xtreme Legends and Empires expansions.

I’ve been buying each one since DW2 but I think my enthusiasm may be dipping now. I know the iterations are often lazy but they seem to be taking the biscuit lately (tried the dw7 empires edit mode and most of the items were cloned from dw6 empires).

DW8? .. I’m in shock – is there not already about twenty-eight of these games? :O

Think it may be closer to 35 or 40.
The franchise has some serious clout in Japan, enough to warrant a whole variety of expansions, ports, and spin-offs.

I can’t wait for this one, been waiting for a release date and now it’s official… Yay! Loved DW4 to 7 and Warriors Orochi 3, so it’s an instant buy for me.
