The classic Sega Megadrive game Castle of Illusion is to be remade in gorgeous HD for the PlayStation Network.
“We have also been working very closely with the director of the original game, who is now at Disney Interactive,” commented Mai Kawaguchi, Senior Digital Brand Manager for Sega.
“We are having a blast working with her to realize many of the elements that were intended for the original game, but couldn’t be achieved until now due to the technical limitations of previous generation consoles.”
Sega promise to keep intact “many of the major iconic elements of the game” which will be out this summer thanks to the chaps working hard at Sega’s Australian studios.
The game has been announced via the US PlayStation Blog so obviously there is no mention of Wii U, Xbox 360 or PC versions but we expect some, if not all of those to confirmed shortly.

It’s cool that they’re adding in elements that they weren’t able to do originally – I love Castle Of Illusion so I’ll definitely pick this up!

It’s the opposite for me. Never played the original so there’s no nostalgia effect for me and I never really liked the game mechanics of any old platformer besides Mario and Rayman so hopefully this is more in line with my expectations. ^^

If its anything like the original you’re in for a treat :-) I’ve been replaying the Mega Drive version recently and to be honest it hasn’t aged at all. Simple yet responsive gameplay, a nice variety of challenging stages and an infectious soundtrack. The only thing I want to see added is the option to save your progress! lol.
