“I mean, how stupid would that be? It’d be like going to Patisserie Valerie and saying ‘Make me a can of baked beans.’ You go to them for the best cakes in the world, and you let them get on with making those cakes. You trust them to do a good job of that.”
So spoke Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s senior business development manager, Shahid Kamal Ahmad, revealing to the world he has great taste in both games and fondant fancies. He was using the sugar-topped metaphor to talk about Jeff Minter and his games, a man – and I’m sure he won’t mind me saying this – rarely described as a delicious tea time treat.
“Now, I’m not saying a Jeff Minter game is a cake – certainly not a piece of cake,” continues Shahid, “but when you go to Jeff Minter, you know what you’re getting. You’re going to get a certain type of game, and you do not interfere with that experience. And what you want is the best Jeff Minter game.”
Sony’s champion of Indie games also explained that the reaction to Thomas Was Alone took them by surprise.
“I had no idea there was going to be the amount of press attention that there was around Thomas Was Alone. If I’d put something like that in the original plan that I put together for engaging with the development community, I would have been laughed out of the office.”
Shahid also spoke briefly about the PlayStation 4 and made positive noises (possibly because his face was full of cake.)
“I think we’re going to have a really good launch, and I think we’re going to have a good amount of content appearing for quite some time on that. We’ve got more developer engagement on PS4 than we’ve had for any previous console, so that’s a really healthy sign.”

I love the idea of the heavy role that devs have had with the PS4, it sounds very promising and maybe the one of the aspects that swing me from Xbox back to Playstation.

The more I read about Sonys plans for the future the more it matches exactly with what I want. Personally they couldn’t have gotten it more right for me.
I am very intrigued to see what Microsoft can do to try and win me over.

*Revels in even more positive stuff about the PS4*
Credit given, this is going so well. Huge respect to Shahid too. Top effort.

The PS4 is looking like Titanic, unsinkable, let’s just hope it doesn’t hit an iceberg.

Let’s hope the launch line up will be as good as they say it will be. For some reason I don’t even doubt it. Watch_Dogs alone will get me to buy a PS4 and inFamous and Drive Club are looking fantastic. Then there’s JAW / Oddworld Inhabitants working on a PS4 game (hopefully an Oddworld game), CD Project will heavily support the system, Final Fantasy Versus XIII / XV might make the jump to next gen and Just Cause 3 would be the icing on the cake…

I hate you all. I spend ages laying a trap and no one falls for it.

It’s a bit hard not to fall for the classic cake under a box propped up by a stick trap. ;) I think you are losing your touch Tuffcub as you used to be able to trap any TSAer you desire without them knowing before it was too late. :O

It’s like Sony were a really ugly caterpillar with PS3 and are blossoming into a beautiful butterfly with PS4.
My apologies. Fuck knows where that^^ came from.
