Vita Remote Play Mandatory For All (Non-Camera) PS4 Games

Whilst Sony showed Knack running on the PlayStation Vita via the seldom-used Remote Play feature (above), it has emerged today that it’s likely that all PS4 games will be required by Sony to allow the Vita to control the action.

That’s according to Eurogamer, citing a trusted source.

On the PS4, Remote Play works by downscaling the 1080p video internally before passing it out over wi-fi to the Vita, which then returns controller inputs back over the same connection to the PS4.

There’s no penalty to developers, according to the report, so hopefully this rumour is indeed true and we’ll be able to play everything – Killzone Shadow Fall, DriveClub – on the Vita.

Expect more on this at E3 in just under two weeks.

  1. Great. Should sell some Vita’s!

  2. I like how the Vita is looking like a good companion for the PS4. Also, by the time the PS4 comes out, the Vita should have a wealth of good games released for it (not saying it doesn’t already, but it’ll have more by then as well). Meaning that a PS4 and PS Vita purchase – whilst expensive – would be fucking awesome.

  3. if this is confirmed at E3 then I don’t think I’d be able to wait for a price drop – I’ll be preordering this beast

  4. it just keeps getting better

  5. Good news, I wonder if the vita UI will get a new look to match that of the ps4’s when it’s released.

  6. Cool, it should be much improved over the current version. I could only ever get it working on my home network, only got it working once over the www as it usually timed out before it managed to complete the connection.
There’s a rumour that Microsot’s XO will have some sort of remote play too. If they do , it would probably allow a multitude of tablets to be used but it sounds like Sony are planning something similar.
What with Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft all having some sort of remote play it looks like it’ll become an industry standard for developers – it’s just a shame Sony couldn’t capitalise on their remote play tech this generation.

  7. News about the PS4 just keeps getting better and better. :)
    Great news for us gamers.

  8. Hmm, i’ll stay skeptical.

  9. So how about a 4G psvita? Really hope they show that at E3!

  10. Fantastic news in theory, but unless it honestly does work flawlessly from the off (fingers crossed), i can forsee it loosing some of it’s sheen.

Sony really need to put together some kick ass PS4+Vita bundles, take the ‘loss’ on the nose for a while, just to get more Vita’s into homes and drive home the potential of the Vita, before it’s too late.

Cannot see Dust 514 being the factor that shifts Vita’s, so Sony needs something and soon as…..
