Tropico 5 Announced

Tropico 5, the next instalment of the critically acclaimed Tropico city-builder series, is currently in development at Haemimont Studios and is slated for a 2014 release, it has been revealed today. The game will be available for Xbox 360, Windows PC, Mac and Linux.

Tropico 5 gameplay is set to span the decades, and sees El Presidente take control of the infamous island of Tropico during early colonial times, before guiding it through the centuries as the world changes and moves ever forward. Each era will bring its own challenges and opportunities, and you’ll have to tackle the changing needs of your people, as well as opposing governments and factions, to set forth the foundations of your own dynasty.

Alongside new features such as advanced trading mechanics, technology, scientific research trees and island exploration, Tropico 5 will also add both cooperative and competitive multiplayer for up to four players for the first time in the series’ history.

More details on the game are expected to be released at GamesCom.

  1. I picked up Tropico 4 in the Steam Summer Sale and instantly fell in love with it. It’s a great game and the humour makes it all the more enjoyable.

    Multiplayer should be interesting, especially how competitive works, like is based upon military, trade or tourist goals?

    • It’s worth it for the soundtrack alone. Those catch Latin beats.

  2. It is the only game I play on my 360. Providing I don’t get rid of the console I will definitely pick it up

  3. It really doesn’t need a multiplayer element to it. Tropico 4 is iron sheik class
