Sony have confirmed reports of PS4 launch title DriveClub being delayed until “early 2014”. They’ve described this as a “difficult decision” and it’s definitely one which will be better for the game, allowing Evolution to deliver the game they wanted.
SCE Worldwide Studios and the team at Evolution Studios have made the difficult decision to delay the release of DRIVECLUB and DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition until early 2014. DRIVECLUB will be a truly innovative, socially connected racing game, but the team requires more time in order to deliver on their vision — and I’m fully confident the game will surpass your expectations.
As well as the launch line-up, this directly affects the PlayStation Plus bonuses offered in the first month, of which a scaled-back version of DriveClub was one. Now, while you’ll still get that when the game releases next year if you’re a PS+ subscriber, Contrast from Corruption Games will be available as part of the Instant Game Collection at launch instead.
They’ve also detailed some future PlayStation Plus content, including an “open weekend” trial for Killzone Shadow Fall, allowing everyone to experience the multiplayer component. While the launch line-up is now missing one of its key exclusive titles, 2014 is looking like a great year already.
It’s definitely better to have a great game next year than a mediocre game at launch.

I think thats PS4 settled for xmas 2014 then, nothing interesting and well…. indies aren’t really a big deal if I can get them on other platforms. Just makes buying a Playstation 4 at launch window so iffy.

Id much rather them take the time to make a game worth playing, than doing a Gran Turismo and making a broken game and the spending years patching it to actually get it to where is should have been at release.
This just makes Sony’s launch line-up seem at little flat, on the first party release front.

My decision to wait until my Birthday next year to get the PS4 is seeming more and more like a good decision. Having been a PS3 early adopter I feel I learnt my lesson the hard way.

Oh testicle another day one purchase I will have to do without. But guess need for speed will have to be its substitute. Unless anyone knows of any other driving games?

Likely it will turn out that forza is pants and Microsoft forged ahead anyway whilst Sony did the right thing by delaying drive club.

Well, I have decided not to buy a PS4 at this stage, and the decision was definitely right considering DriveClub’s delay, as it was probably my favourite PS4 game so far, along with Resogun. I wonder how long I should wait? Hmm…

For all those hoping for a 60 FPS outcome, may i offer a piece of advice from a (ahem) somewhat seasoned gamer?.
Be careful what you wish for….
Some on here may recal Clockwork Games ‘Vanishing Point’ on Dreamcast, a key feature of which was it’s graphics engine which was technically superb.Designed to ensure there was no pop-up, had superbly rendered car models, great lighting FX, ran in high resolution and all at 60 FPS, so a real showcase of the DC hardware.
Sadly, despite offering innovation to the genre (1st place is not measured by your finish position, but time taken to cover a set distance) and a highly enjoyable stunt mode, game was crippled by unfair A.I and awful car handling and tracks had a very steep learning curve.
So much as 60 FPS would indeed be fantastic, sometimes it’s best to ask yourself what you’d rather your money went on: a ‘Vanity Graphics’ showcase that screams look at me!!!, no, seriousily, look, i’m 60 FPS and everything darling…..but is pretty poor on the old enjoyment front or something that is’nt out to impress, but wants you to get the most enjoyment possible from it, whilst still looking rather tidy, thank you.
I’ve been playing games that ran at 60 FPS on numerous models of hardware over the years, so it’s not the holy grail by any means.

I quite liked Vanishing Point, though it was certainly no Metropolis Street Racer! I absolutely agree though, a technical showcase could easily play like a dog, whereas that steady old 30fps is fine if the game plays well.
I’m happy that they’ve made the decision not to rush it out if it wasn’t right, even if it was one of the games I was most excited about at launch. Killzone and Knack for me anyway.

Hmmmm… I’ve just watched the Contrast video & there doesn’t look like much contrast between that & a PS2 video game. Hopefully it’s just down to the trailer not doing it justice.
