The install sizes for PS4 games are going to be big with Killzone Shadow Fall coming in at 39.7GB, and Call Of Duty: Ghosts taking up 50GB of the console’s hard drive. Now it looks like Knack’s install size of 37GB has been leaked via Twitter user JoshLMusic, who has picked up the game prior to the PS4 release.
The figure comes in response to a query by another user asking whether the install size was present, with the reply being that the case had “HDD 37GB” in the information section.
@Jesszman @yosp "HDD 37gb" that's what it says on the back!

This trend is unlikely to disappear so if you’re looking to hold a lot of games at a time on your consoles upgrading the hard drive would seem like a sensible idea.
We’ve contacted Sony for confirmation on the capacity Knack needs.

I feel sorry for those that are not all that educate gamers and buy through the psn with default hdd’s. Games like Uncharted 3, The Last Of Us and GTA for example with blockbusting hdd sizes.

how long is 40GB going to take to install ?
bunimomike
Top question. It’s not like it needs to extract from a smaller zip/archive file so it might be a relatively simply process of dumping across the main files and then a little executable file running to just bed everything in. I suppose, the smart answer would be to work out how long it takes to get 40GB off of the Blu-ray drive and add on 5 to 10% for extraneous bits and bobs to do their thing.
Ah, I’ve just worked it out. It’s not good! Twenty five minutes or so. However, it might only need the first 20% of the install for you to start playing which means you might be up and running in five minutes which is pretty lovely. The other 80% can install in the background whilst you’re pasting the enemies in the first few levels. ;-)

Yes, most of the install should happen in the background whilst playing, completely invisible for the user. In some cases, hopefully most, all of it will be done that way.

this is why physical discs are not dead and wont be for a long time. I’ll be buying physical still. plus you can trade them in/refund if broken or crap
bunimomike
What’s a little bit weird is not only are they not dead but they’re becoming more important as the leap in technology is quite the jolt when compared to the gradual increase of broadband speeds around the country/world.

Looks like the new consoles are the compact PCs we already knew they were.

*waving at the thought of a digital-only future.
We are not ready.

The only reason I’m going to try to go all digital this time is so i can load any game straight onto my vita without worrying if the disk is in

Well I just spent an hour and half writing a post on the forums with all of the info I can find on the PS4 hard drive. As I was doing the formatting I clicked on another link and lost the whole lot – great
stueeeee
I still don’t get why they can’t just stream off the disc and have smaller installs…..why does it need to install the whole game to the hdd?
