Infinity Ward have revealed that they did try and make Call of Duty: Ghosts run at 1080P on the Xbox One but the resources reserved by Microsoft for the OS meant they could only get their target of 60FPS at 720P.
“It’s very possible we can get it to native 1080p. I mean I’ve seen it working at 1080p native. It’s just we couldn’t get the frame rate in the neighbourhood we wanted it to be,” explained Mark Rubin from Infinity Ward.
“And it wasn’t a lack of effort. It wasn’t that it was like last minute. We had the theoretical hardware for a long time. That’s the thing you get pretty quickly and that doesn’t change dramatically. It was more about resource allocation. The resource allocation is different on the consoles.”
Microsoft engineers helped optimise the game and it was a “late decision” to upscale to 1080p on the Xbox One.
“We took each system individually and said, ‘okay, let’s make the best game for each system,” said Mark.

Except for PC, where it’s poorly optimised and runs like crap on high end machines.

If XB1’s own guys couldn’t get the thing working, this is a really bad sign. IW seem to point towards the OS overhead but the rumours suggest the problems maybe deeper than that. The XB1 is just under powered compared to the PS4 and any improvements over time will happen on both systems. The PS4 is a moving target and I fear the XB1 will never catch up.
I wonder if MS will bite the bullet and release an XB1.5 in the future…?
MS Fanboys have been banging on about Ryse and Forza, but the former is only 900p and that later doesn’t look that dynamic to be honest.

Yeah I was thinking about an XB1.5. Couldn’t they release a boosted version, developers would just optimise like on PC.

But it’s not about the specs, Microsoft said! it’s all about the power of the cloud!
Starman
Interesting as he says in the full article that as they further optimise the engine and/or MS alter the reserved resources there’s no reason why it won’t be full hd in the future. All is not lost.

I’m sure the next CoD will be 1080p60, but equally, I believe the PS4 version will also be more optimised and have better texture detail/AA/lighting/etc…

The tools for XB1 will improve with time and they’ll get closer parity with PS4. Mind you, the PS4 tools can also be improved.
Bilbo_bobbins
basically saying that they couldn’t do it because of the spec of the machine. Fair enough.

Seems like Sony was right in not using ESRAM. Until the tools improve and ways of working around it are found, it will limit the number of full HD titles as there’s not really enough of it.

At least the guy was being truthful and not trying to cover it up. It should also shut a few fanboys up.
