Gran Turismo 6 Will Have In-Game Purchases, Sony Confirm

Polyphony Digital’s PlayStation 3 exclusive racing sim Gran Turismo 6 will have in-game purchases, or micro-transactions, it has been confirmed.

A new post on the PlayStation Blog has confirmed the news, which was hinted at a while back, when retailers announced the Special Edition of GT6 would include “additional Credits”.

Sony have said the in-game currency will be available in 500K, 1 million, 2.5 million or 7 million point denominations, although the real-world prices for each package are yet to be announced.

At first glance – assuming they’re priced competitively – these bundles don’t seem like a game-breaker. For reference, a Ford GT will cost you just shy of 150,000 credits in the new game, whilst that same amount would net you three Corvette Stingray C7’s, or five Toyota 86 GTs at 30k each.

Gran Turismo 6 is set to race on to PlayStation 3 this coming December 6th.

  1. I hate this kind of thing :(

GTA V is the perfect example as to why this sucks (imo) – as they just make things stupidly priced. I mean, in GTA V the first (of four) engine upgrades costs $29,000 and an extended mag or scope costs $12,500, yet for completing a mission that takes 20-30 minutes can net you as little as $1,500. With these transactions I fear they will always gear things up so to entice you to buy DLC ‘money’. God forbid we had to achieve something in-game to unlock something like in ye olden days, rather than just get our wallets out.

  2. Normally id be super excited for another GT, but the last one was shockingly poor in my opinion. Equally with the advent of the Next-Gen it may nit sell quite aswel. In game purchases seem to be the in thing now though so its not such a surprise.

  3. I don’t mind in game purchases in F2P games as it’s cost the developers to make it. Don’t agree to it for bought games as you’ve already paid for it.

  4. I’m not picking this up at launch mainly because it’s on Ps3. My purchases are now pretty much locked to Ps4 and Vita but I might of picked up in bargains after Xmas. With microtransactions it’s not really got chance of me even getting it cheap. F2p can have microtransactions but not a full paid game.

  5. Only now that I actually own a PS4 do I feel the true disappointment of this not coming to next-gen.

  6. Nope. In game purchases are an instant no no for me, PS3 or PS4.

  7. people say it won’t affect the game, but it will, in game money will be harder to earn to make the buyable packages more attractive.
or they’ll make the things you can buy ultra expensive.

that’s why i dislike this kind of thing.

do you also have to pay for repairs in the game as well?
pay to replace worn out tires?
    fuel?
pay somebody to clean the windows or they get too dirty to see out of?

in a free to play game that they’re giving away, it’s fine, they’ve got to make money somehow.
but when you’re paying 40 or 50 quid for a game, well then i say no.

  8. I LOVE the GT series, and have preordered since 3, but this game seems like just more of GT5’s diversion from a true racing game. all im gonna say is….. The Moon. nuff said

  9. No thanks!

  10. I honestly don’t think this will be as big a deal for GT fans? It’s primary target, like all microtransactions, are the more casual gamer who wants a particular car but has no patience to earn credits in game. It’s GT, it’s going to be great, from what I’ve played & seen so far, just enjoy it.
And yes, I was disappointed it’s not on ps4 but having seen it up close & next to the 2 next gen racers, it holds it’s own on 7 year old hardware ;)

    • This.
I’m not bothered in the slightest if it takes a little longer to earn in game bonuses, unlocks or credits to buy cars. My garage in GT5 has over a 1000 cars so sometimes during our regular meets the choice of cars for races can be overwhelming even with specific power or drive requirements, I’m totally spoilt for choice.
Prolonging that scenario suits me fine and I’ll probably appreciate each car earned/bought that little bit more. :O
