Tomb Raider Coming To Next Gen?

Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider reboot may be bound for next-gen platforms if a recent listing at Amazon Italy proves correct.

The online retailer is currently offering pre-orders for two version of the game: one for PlayStation 4 and another, presumably, for the Xbox One. Both are priced at €50.41 and are due to launch on January 24th.

It’s also worth noting that Amazon Italy is listing the product as “Tomb Raider: Definitive Version”. Each copy of the game will come tagged with a full suite of downloadable content as well as an artbook for anyone who pre-orders.

Though this could well be a inaccurate listing for a PS3/360 “Game of the Year Edition”, there is also a high chance that Square Enix is jumping on the next-gen port bandwagon. A smart move, considering how the publisher is one of the last to make its PS4/X1 with the February release of Thief.

  1. i’d be very surprised if there’s not a next gen Tomb Raider on the way.

a new game would be my preference over a port of the current gen version though.
most people that wanted to play it, will have played it by now, they won’t have known about a next gen version to have decided to hold back, and even if they did, who’d wait six months for it?

still, it could be a relatively inexpensive way to make a next gen title in the series.

  2. Hmm, whilst I’d quite like to see it on next gen, I probably can’t justify re-buying (and replaying) games when I have so many good games that I haven’t played for the first time yet. Will be great for people who haven’t already bought these, although that might suggest they weren’t that fussed about it seeing as I’m pretty sure you can get TR dirt cheap on PS3 now.

  3. Loved TR on the PS3 and I think it already looks very good so I’m not sure I’ll be getting this.

  4. I enjoyed it on PS3 but i sold it as soon as i completed it and i don’t have any yearning to play it again. I’m hoping for a proper return to actual tomb raiding in the next chapter.
