Digital Prices Of Xbox One Exclusives Raised

If you’re looking to go all digital this generation, then you’ll have to spend a little bit extra if you were planning to purchase exclusive Xbox One titles such as Dead Rising 3, Forza Motorsport 5, and Ryse: Son of Rome.

Those games will now set you back £49.99 on Xbox Live rather than £44.99, as had been the case since November 22nd. That’s £15 more in total, which could buy you the likes of Crimson Dragon or Peggle 2. There doesn’t appear to be any official word from Microsoft on the matter, or whether the reduced price was a limited time offer.

Whatever the case, they are still a few pounds cheaper than the digital versions of the PS4’s main exclusives, Killzone: Shadow Fall and Knack, which are prices at £52.99 each.

  1. Maybe, the UK GOV are charging a new ‘game tax’ like with cigarettes and alcohol , which take into account the damage they do to people like turn them into murderers etc?

  2. Meh, i don’t think anybody really expected MS and Sonys digital stores to suddenly match Steam for price and value.

It does throw up nostalgic memories though, my last title bought for over £39.99 was the Ocarina of Time for the N64. It remains the most expensive game i’ve ever bought, i think you have to be a special kind of crazy to be a console early adopter and pay mental prices like that.

  3. Am I the only one that thinks 49.99 is 4.99 more expensive than the original rather than the £15 this article claims. What’s the right figure?

Anyhow, it ‘seems’ that the titles are cheaper than those of PS digital titles so there isn’t really much discrepancy is there. Aside from the fact that a rise in price is hardly justified (but apparently legal), which no one likes.

It seems like all the bad news about Xbox One brings out tons of comments on how Xbox One is dead but to be honest, while Sony have done a brilliant job, they didn’t do quite so well with the PS3 launch.

    • I was just about to write the same about the price, surely its £5 more not £15

      • As the comment notes below, perhaps it means £15 when purchasing all three games, which seems an unusual way to look at it when what matters is individual price. Anyhow, it’s still a price rise, but still cheaper than PS Store.

  4. I presumed if you bought the 3 games mentioned it would cost £15 more? Anyhow, £50 is too much especially when you consider the games are worthless once you’ve finished with them.

  5. Wouldn’t it have sucked if they tried to do something crazy like kill hard-copy market by requiring installs and 24 hour check ins thus giving themselves a pricing monopoly …
And then they wonder why people are cynical about a download only console!

  6. Raised prices for xbox one digital games – #dealwithit

  7. The other week Fergal Gara (not sure if right name) from Sony Europe explained the PSN store pricing policy.

Essentially Sony don’t want to annoy the game retailers so will not undercut them, they realise that they need places like Game and Amazon to sell their consoles.

Microsoft are probably doing the same.
