Left 4 Dead 2 Apparently Reanimated In Alleged Source 2 Screenshot

An upgrade for Valve’s Source engine, currently going by Source 2, has long been rumoured to exist, and has been linked with as yet unannounced games such Left 4 Dead 3 and Half Life 3. Now it appears that a screenshot of the engine has been leaked by mysterious industry insider, Cboat, who has leaked information before, with some of them being correct. The image is below and you can decide if it is legit, or a hoax.

The screenshot shows the plantation stage from Left 4 Dead 2, and it does look very detailed. There are other previews of shots on the left, with a total of twenty apparently in this leaked file. If this is an actual leak it does not mean that Left 4 Dead 3 is in production. Instead this is likely to be Valve testing the limits of Source 2, if its real, with a ported game instead of building something from scratch, though it would be silly to assume nothing is being built for the engine.

  1. Person678 and I were chatting about this last night. Definitely not proof but the detail is stunning. However, it’s interesting that they would look to old Campaigns first but there we go. Perhaps they’re concurrently developing L4D3 as well as making sure the old Campaigns can come across seamlessly.

Valve have released some truly staggering games in the past but their total lack of communication loses my respect, I’ll be honest.
