Note: this post contains Cabin In The Woods spoilers.
If you had the eyesight of a hawk you may have noticed a few familiar figures during Cabin In The Woods, specifically the scene which reveals hundreds of cubes each with a monster in them.
Drew Goddard, director of the film, has taken to Reddit to explain why.
We actually were going to do a downloadable L4D2 expansion pack, where you’d fight in the Cabin world, but then MGM went bankrupt so the delay squashed it.
But the people at Valve were still cool enough to let us use some of their monsters to fill the cubes in the background (I had a lot of cubes to fill.)
Cabin In The Woods concluded filming in May 2009 but as MGM collapsed the project entered limbo along with the Bond franchise which is why we’ve had to wait so long for Skyfall (and why Chris Hemsworth looks so young in Cabin).
As for the Left 4 Dead 2 DLC Goddard said,
The game was gonna be amazing. You were gonna be able to play in both the upstairs “Cabin in the Woods” world and the downstairs “facility” world with all the monsters.
Believe me, I HATE all video games based on movies, they always suck, but porting Cabin into Left For Dead felt like the right fit. It pains me that it didn’t happen.
Cabin In The Woods is out on Monday, watch it and imagine what could have been.

I have never heard of this film before, but I think the idea of merging it into a game as DLC, sounds cool.

Thought the film was a decent attempt at originity in a genre that has basically gone to the dogs! Don’t expect too much from it but its quite enjoyable!
Obviously my own opinion as is the poster’s above.

Aw, that’s a shame, Cabin in the Woods would’ve been the perfect fit for L4D.
Thought the movie was excellent, one of the best horrors I’ve seen in a while… though I dunno if the word horror is accurate really, closer to a more serious version of Scary Movie.
