While PlayStation Now will be utilised for playing PS3 games on your PS4, PS Vita, television or even tablet device, it seems as though PS1 and PS2 games will be coming to the PS4, although with a much more conventional approach to emulation.
In a similar way to how the PS3 was able to play certain downloadable versions of PS1 and PS2 games, the PS4 will be able to use its much more powerful architecture to prevent from the blurry, upscaled look of the games, instead bringing native HD resolutions to the games for the first time, without the need for an HD (re)makeover.
This will bring similar benefits to unofficial PC emulation, where games look sharp, and may also allow for higher resolution versions of textures to be used without any reworking of those textures, as we’ve seen with HD remakes last generation.
There’s nothing to say that these games won’t also come to PlayStation Now, but this seems like a very good method for running PS1 and PS2 games, though it doesn’t seem likely that you’ll be able to use your currently own discs and will have to fork out once again for the titles.
Which games would you like to see emulated on PS4?

Tomb Raider 2 would be nice. In my lifetime I have played that game through on PC, PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP and Vita; need to keep up tradition ;)

Upscale a emulation sounds great, but why wouldn’t we be able to use our current discs? I though PC emulation could ramp up the res when reading from a disc? Textures, I guess, would be a different story. I’d really like the almightily powerful PS4 to do proper PS1, PS2 and PSP emulation, from disc for the first two, and also some PS2 classics support on the Vita. Some of that might be a stretch but In the case of the classics we’ve mostly bought these games for the second time and I think ongoing support isn’t too much to ask for.

why?
so we have to buy the games again that’s why.
otherwise we could play the games we already own.
and god knows they don’t want that to happen.

If I remember correctly I think I bought a PS1 off a mate for £25 or something daft and only had 3 games but I wouldn’t mind playing all 3 just for the nostalgia buzz. WWF Smackdown (or one em), Bust-a-Move and last but definitely not least as I played the living hell out of it……..

I fell asleep, drunk at the wheel with a kebab on my lap many a time after coming home from a Saturday night.

Throw in some trophies and I’ll happily buy in without hesitation.

I second that! Lots of classics I’d love to revisit.

Half Life, The Getaway, The Suffering, SSX Tricky and Burnout 3.

This is something I have always envisaged and when I heard about the Playstation Streaming Service (way back when – Gaikai) was my deciding factor, as in I ebayed and traded about 300 games.
I do really hope they do this sooner rather than later! Actually scratch that – This is a must as would love to play the mountain of titles I overlooked, missed or could never find.
Sony just get better and better :-)

Here come the FF series again. But if they do this then does it spell the end of HD remakes on PS3?

I may finally get round to Leaving Midgar on FF7 then! Tried about 20 times and always given up
