Adam Orth’s Game Based On His #DealWithIt Tweet And Subsequent Backlash Gets A Publisher

Time for a recap: Adam Orth was Creative Director at Microsoft Studios before the launch of the Xbox One and at that time the plan was for the console was to be online all of the time.

Adam tweeted that he did not “get the drama around having an ‘always on’ console”, saying that “every device now is ‘always on’. That’s the world we live in. #dealwithit.”

Asked about those without an internet connection he then suggested, “those people should definitely get with the times and get the internet, it’s awesome.”

Adam quickly left his post at Microsoft and suffered a barrage of “internet toxicity” from people telling him where he should stick his always on connection. He has since apologised for the tweets and has turned his experience in to a game, or a more precisely, the game is a metaphor for his experience.

Set in a destroyed space station, Adrift finds the player with no memory and a severely damaged EVA suit. The player will face puzzles and challenges in a bid to repair the damaged emergency escape vehicle and safely return home.

Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity: The Game, anyone?

The title will be published by 505 Games and will be released for PC, consoles and “VR platforms” although which has not been specified. It would be rather ironic if the game based on some rather choice Xbox One tweets became a PS4 VR exclusive.
