PlayStation Store Update: 16/04/14 – Trials Fusion, FIFA World Cup & Sly Trilogy Vita

Trials! Trials is on a PlayStation! The brutally difficult motorcycle physics platforming game has finally made the jump to the PlayStation 4, releasing today on PSN for £15.99/€19.99. There’s also a season pass which will set you back a further £15.99/€19.99, and which is included in the retail release which is coming on Friday. If you’re not convinced, just check out Peter’s review.

From extreme tests of dexterity to tests of your mental capacity, Pure Chess has also arrived on the PS4, looking lovelier than ever and set to cost £6.29/€7.99. There’s also a whole host of DLC skins for the game that can be bought separately or as a bundle alongside the game for £10.25/€11.99, though PS+ members get a 20% discount on the bundle and DLC.

Rounding things out for the PS4, the last few days saw Final Fantasy XIV go live for those that didn’t decide to pre-order the game. You can buy it separately for £29.99/€34.99 on the store, as a £44.99/€49.99 digital collector’s edition, or just upgrade from the PS3 version for free. There’s also the public release of Battlefield 4’s Naval Strike DLC, which is no longer exclusive to Premium subscribers, but will cost you £11.99 whether on PS4 or PS3.

It’s a largely unexciting week on PS3 which sees FIFA World Cup 2014 tie in with this year’s real world tournament later this week for the amusing price of £49.99/€69.99, while SingOn arrives as a plucky contender to Singstar’s crown, as a free download and with 10 free songs to get you started and time passes to the wider catalogue after that.

There’s also digital releases of Resistance FOM and Resistance 2, both for £10.99/€14.99, though their online services have long since been turned off, and last year’s poorly received Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows gets a Trial & Unlock appearance for £11.99/€14.99.

There’s a lot more fun to be had on the PS Vita, though it’s not new games that you’ll be enjoying. Dead Nation appears on the plucky little handheld, as a Cross-Buy title to the original PS3 release (NOT the PS4 release) which many of you will have from the PSN outage’s Welcome Back pack or the first time the game appeared on PS+, back in 2011. If you don’t have it already, then it’s £6.49/€7.99 on its own, or £7.99/€9.99 with the Road of Devastation DLC bundled in. That DLC is £3.19/€3.99 separately.

Meanwhile, Sly Cooper sneaks back onto the Vita, as The Sly Trilogy has been ported across, which Aran was very impressed by. The whole package will cost £19.99/€24.99, with each game – 1, 2, 3 – available separately for £7.99/€9.99, but we’re also lucky enough for this to be a PS3/PS Vita Cross-Buy title, so if you’ve picked it up on PS3 before you’ve got this for free!

Psst! A little birdie in the PS blog comments says that the trilogy is €19.99 on PS3, so if you’re paying in Euros, you should get that version.

Ethan Meteor Hunter comes as a cross-buy title between PS3 and PS Vita for £7.99/€9.99, while Putty Squad makes its way onto the handheld for £19.99/€24.99

No Heroes Allowed: No Puzzles Either! sees the Badman series of games continue, transforming itself into a canny match 3 style game, that also happens to be free to play. It’d be rude not to play it.

Rounding things out this week, we have the conclusion of the LittleBigPlanet DC Season Pass, as the PS Vita DC DLC is released. You can get them in that season pass still, or it’s £4.79/€5.99 for just the Vita pack. There’s also the £1.99/€2.49 Botzone DLC for Killzone: Mercenary, so that you can get some first person shooting in when you’re without WiFi.

That seems to be everything this week, but as per usual I’ll return to this post once the EU PS Blog has gone live and update anything that is missing.

Update: Added EU prices and a few other details. Additional links coming any second now…

  1. Hoping Sly Trilogy is cross-buy! It will make me feel a little better for buying it on ps3 but not having even downloaded the two sequels yet.

  2. I’ve had Dead Nation on PS3 and PS4 and never got past the first couple of levels on my own, it’s definitely more fun in coop. Perhaps I’ll have more luck if I download it to my Vita?
I’m tempted by Trials as I really enjoyed the Vita release but I’m waiting for reviews, I could see it being potentially crap but anything averaging 6-7+ in reviews will probably see me get it.
I’m also quite tempted by Chess, I used to really enjoy chess back in the day, don’t know if I still would.

    • Shame Dead Nation isn’t cross play as I managed to get a good chunk through it on PS3 but Aye, co-op is much better.

Feel free to noise me up

  3. A broad update this week. I think people could probably buy the PS3 version of FFXIV for about a tenner in most places, and then upgrade to PS4 for free, although not sure if that tactic works in this particular case.

Also the Easter Sale has had a small update. Not sure whether to pinch Resistance Burning Skies for a tenner.

    • Stay well away from Resistance Burning Skies, my friend. Well away!

      • There are billions of better ways to spend that £10…

      • Haha brilliant. Lovely to hear such reception, and thanks for the advice. Is there any particular reasons for your advice though? I know the game is pretty naff compared to something like Killzone Mercs, but I tend to enjoy the Resistance universe (as a bit of a fan I suppose) and I thought I might get the Vita game just for some fun. I’ve tried the demo and it was terrible, but I’m hoping the rest of the game might be a bit better. Am I wrong in thinking that?

      • @avenger. Burning skies is a painfully average game with no challenge and redeeming features. The only good thing is the easy platinum. Get Retribution instead which is far better :)

    • At £10 I would recommend Resistance Burning Skies; refer to my WeView review:
“I wavered for ages on buying this but saw it cheap in Cex so picked it up several months after the Vita’s launch, and I actually really enjoyed it. Admittedly, the majority of the graphics, especially textures, were poor, and multiplayer wasn’t great. Yet the Chimera looked great and their behaviour spot on – I was especially pleasantly surprised at how spot-on Nihilistic managed to get the whole exploding-heatstack thing. Sure, the AI was rather dumb and the difficulty mainly stemmed from the amount of Chimera attacking you at once, yet I didn’t find it detracted much from the experience – I still found it a joy to play, especially as they got the guns and the controls spot-on. It’s funny how people didn’t like Riley, but I actually found him a lot better than Capelli (of R3) in the empathetic department. Having said that, Riley’s ‘I’m a fireman and want to help everyone’ did get boring and more and more unbelieveable as the story goes on. In conclusion, while its not the best shooter you’ll ever play, it’s certainly fun, and the story keeps you engaged pretty well throughout. I’d say Bargain Bin It.”

  4. Dear me. Playing on the PS4’s BF4 Naval Strike maps today is awful. Full of bouncing around and laggy gameplay. Not nice at all.

    • That’s a real shame. I’ve had no such problems on PC at all… :\

  5. I’ll be downloading Dead Nation on the Vita, if anyone fancies some co-op in the evenings?

  6. Anyone gone for the Botzone DLC? If so it’s be good to hear if the bots are any good!

    • Not yet. I have no idea whether to snap it up yet. The bots were always good in Killzone 2, and apparently they’re being touted as very dynamic, with lots of different behaviours in KZ Mercs. Hence why I’m thinking about snapping it up.

Just thinking about it, I doubt they’ve combined bots into the online mode, but it’s an idea. 2 humans vs 6 AI, or something like that would be interesting.

    • I got this last night and played a few rounds. Given that I’ve not managed to get a decent online game since the beta I’m a bit out of practice, and it showed as I was taken out quite frequently by the bots on the easiest setting. For £2 it gives a great way to get used to maps without being online and at least guarantees your going to have a full 8 player game.
      Buy it….

  7. I’m hearing rumours DN isn’t cross buy with the PS+/sorry pack versions?

    • Turns out it’s fine.
      Ignore pls.

  8. Wait.. Resistance FOM and Resistance 2? Why? They just turned off the multiplayer servers so half the game is unplayable! What a silly thing to release.

    • They should be bundled. but meh. they’re very cheap in stores if you look hard enough.

  9. Yeah free Vita games. Dead Nation and Sly 1 (given away on PS3 as part of plus many moons ago). If only I had space on my card for the games I already have.

  10. Trials Fusion £15.99
    Season pass £15.99
    Both bundled together £31.99
    Clever.

(I know it’s only a penny but it’s the principle)
