Apparently Sony were not listening, the PSN is going to be offline on Easter Monday, albeit for six hours rather than twelve.
We wanted to take a moment to inform you of a network maintenance, currently scheduled for Monday, April 21st from 9:50 AM to 3:50 PM Pacific Time (12:50 PM to 6:50 PM Eastern Time). We expect this maintenance to last approximately 6 hours.
If you’ve signed in to the network any time since April 16th you will be able to play games online and access partner apps such as Netflix during this maintenance period. The PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home and Account Management will not be available during this time, and users may receive a maintenance notification when attempting to access these services.
We thank you for your patience and support and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Easter Monday….. The day most people potentially off work and after hard day dealing with kids need a gta v/Battlefield anger release online… Good job sony, Maintenance man up for employee of the month in my eyes! Lol

This will make a lot of people unhappy, but not me. Only because I’ve got to work over Easter, I was unhappy before I heard about this, so bum. :p

Surely this’ll only affect a minority of people. It says if you’ve logged on anytime since today then you can play online during maintenance. So most avid gamers will surely go online between now and Monday at least once. So it’s not as big a deal as it seems.

Yes, nice they have extended the login period rather than making in 24hrs.

Sounds like the most sensible time to do it. If somehow you’re not online before Monday, there’s a good chance you might have a day off work and can do it then, before everything stops working. You’ve got a whole day to log in. Plus several days before then.
And even if you somehow don’t manage to log in before then, the 6 hours of “maintenance” presumably means the usual “store’s down for 6 hours, and you might have trouble signing in if you just happen to pick the 5 minutes when it doesn’t work”.
At least they give plenty of notice. If you’re that desperate to buy anything from the store, you know when not to do it. Nothing else is ever a problem with their maintenance. I think Sony do a bloody good job of keeping it all up and running. The store is available 99% of the time, and everything else is working even better than that.
Maybe if they do it on a holiday, they can safely ignore the inevitable whingeing from the internet. (Which reminds me. I must check out their store update blog post for my weekly comedy whinge fix ;)
