The Plus Points Challenge this month should prove an interesting one as it’s for a game that has seen very mixed reactions from the community here at TSA. Some people hate it for the way it looks, others love it for its retro style but me, I hate it because it’s brutally, infuriatingly difficult!
The game in question is, of course, Mercenary Kings. Due to the divided opinions on the game for this month’s Plus Points Challenge, we’re keeping things simple to try and hopefully get as many entrants as possible. Please do take the time to enter though, as without enough entries we may have to bring the competition to an early finish.
The main challenge this month is a speed run on the first level of the game, with the rules as follows:
- Complete the level Guns N’ Blades as fast as you can in single player. The level is within the recruit section of the game.
- On the mission report screen, press the share button on your DualShock 4.
- Tweet the image of the mission completion screen to @thesixthaxis, making sure you include yourTSA username.
- Top score will get 10 leaderboard points, 2nd 9 points, 3rd 8 points and so on. Everybody who enters will receive 1 leaderboard point.
- There are no restrictions on the number of times a person can enter this competition, though please don’t spam us with entries! Each person’s best time will count.
- The closing date for entries is 6pm on Sunday 4th of May.
Your entry should look like this:
The bonus challenge this month will be to see who can collect the most bonus materials during their run-through of the same mission. 5 leaderboard points will be awarded to whichever player collects the most bonus materials. As always, please be aware that if you finish in the top 10 for the main challenge then you won’t be eligible for the bonus points and the bonus points will be awarded to the player with the most bonus materials that didn’t finish in that bracket.
Every person who enters this month’s contest will also be entered into a random prize draw and one lucky TSA member will win a £10 (or $10) PSN voucher.
I’ve got a feeling there may not be too many entrants this month so this could well be an easy opportunity to bag yourself a good amount of leaderboard points and peg X1BALBAABLAB1X and Lieutenant Fatman back in their domination of the leaderboard.
As a little disclaimer, TSA will not be held accountable for any breakages in your home as a result of playing this infuriatingly difficult game! Right, get your guns ready and head off to Mercenary Kings for some truly 90s gaming. Good luck all!

I have put in about 30 hours (couch co-op) and I’m pretty sure Bonus Materials is largely RNG….

Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t the bonus materials random or is that the point?

I think you’re right, bonus materials for most missions are completely random as far as I’m aware, hard to say for sure though.

Need an excuse to stop playing wsc real 11 on my ps3. I didn’t even make it through the first mission last time I played this! Just like dead nation really! Will give it a go though :)

It’s the first time I ever played this pos game, specifically for the plus point challenge lol. I had several goes and thought I achieved an excellent time of 2:00 dead!
I’ve now been told there are speed mods you can build for your character :(
Really can’t be arsed to play the game enough to get that far. Not a fan.

Yes, there are sprinter mods you can build and equip to increase speed and they stack as well. A time of 2 minutes without them is very impressive. Did you tweet your entry yet?
