Plus Points Challenge: PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate

This month there are two possible choices for the Plus Points Challenge, since PS4 owners have been treated to not one but two games, with both PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate and Trine 2 available. Of those two, the game that most naturally offers a competitive challenge is PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate, so that’s what we’ll be focusing on. The game has received a lot of love from all corners – even I like it and I’m not the world’s biggest fan of indie games!

As we all know, Lieutenant Fatman can win the overall challenge outright this month by finishing anywhere in the top four, so we need a collective effort here to keep him as low down the month’s results as possible if we want the Plus Points Challenge to continue beyond this month.

 Main Challenge

This will be a high score challenge on the first level of the game called “Into the Abyss”.

How To Enter

  • Complete the first level of the game called “Into The Abyss”.
  • When the results screen appears at the end of the level, press the share button on your DualShock 4.
  • Tweet the image of the mission completion screen to @thesixthaxis, making sure you include your TSA username.
  • Top score will get 10 leaderboard points, 2nd 9 points, 3rd 8 points and so on. Everybody who enters will receive 1 leaderboard point.
  • There are no restrictions on the number of times a person can enter this competition, though please don’t spam us with entries! Each person’s best score will count.
  • The closing date for entries is 6pm on Sunday 29th of June.

Your entry should look a little like this, although hopefully with a much higher score!

Into the Abyss

Bonus Contest

  • The bonus contest this month will be for a speed run on the same level, “Into the Abyss”.
  • Enter this in the same was as the main contest – by sending the mission completion report screen to @thesixthaxis, making sure you include your TSA username.
  • Again there are no restrictions on the number of times you can submit an entry for this but please try to keep them to a minimum.
  • Closing date for the bonus contest is the same as for the main contest – 6pm on Sunday 29th of June.
  • There are 5 bonus leaderboard points available for whomever submits the fastest time, though as usual nobody who finishes in the top 10 for the main contest will be considered for the bonus contest.

As usual all entrants this month will be placed into a draw and one random lucky entrant will win a £10/$10 PSN voucher.

Don’t delay, get playing PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate, master that first level, and send us your best scores and quickest times! Remember, we need lots of people to enter this month if we want to stop Lieutenant Fatman’s charge to the title!

  1. Don’t really like this game but will give it a go.

Gonna be hard to drag myself away from warframe though which has sucked me right in at the moment.

  2. Wooo! Just thought I should mention the Vita version is identical to the PS4 version for this game, so if you want more entries, that’s a good way to go. Pressing the PlayStation button and the Start button on the Vita at the same time takes a screen shot, which can then be tweeted using the Twitter app on the Vita.

And yes, Vita owners get this title for free this month as well, which is nice. I’ve been switching between the two a bit using cloud saving, can’t decide which version I prefer!

    Good luck everyone. :)

    • Was just going to ask about that. I’m still in Jr school with my ps3 & vita!

    • Can Tony confirm that the Vita version is acceptable for this challenge please?

      • Yes the Vita version is totally acceptable. Go for it!

  3. Lovely stuff, i’m playing through the game atm so i’ll probably get my entry in over the weekend.

    Good luck to all!

  4. Another game I’ve never played but will give it a go. I don’t think I’ll get anywhere near the score needed to stop Lieutenant Fatman from finishing in the top four.

  5. Is it me or does the ranking not work? Every time im 1001st, same as the screenshot above.

    • It seemed to change a lot on the Vita, but when I switched to the PS4 version I noticed the ranking always held the same number.

    • The rank changes, it does not change that fast, you just need to wait a few more minutes.

  6. As a pixeljunkie fanatic, I can give you a few pro tips on this challenge.

    – The main idea to focus here is time, it does not matter if you pick all the coins, well it is better if you do, but if you get it in less time you will get more points.

    – When traveling fast you will see jet streams, the idea is to keep them specially when turning or picking survivors, that way you can just increase the speed really fast.

    – It is ok to do into lava, as long as you can survive either using shield or picking survivors, I actually go twice into lava on the first level.

    – when picking a worker and if you press X to spin, you will not only pick the worker but move really fast to the next spot, it does not work in all situations but in some it saves time.

    – By picking up coins you can get a life and that is 10k points divded by a function of time, so sometimes if the section will take less time it is good to earn a life there than in another section.

    – Last one I think this one is pretty obvious but chaining monster kills increase the coin drop rewards.

A long time ago I’ve calculated a perfect run on each section of the level so it is around

    section 1: 90k
    section 2: 155k
    section 3: 210k
    section 4: 270k
    section 5: 340k

And the time should be around 1:10 minutes.

Finally on a side note, I have no idea what bug that liithoz player used to get that rank 1 score and that time, probably something went really wrong to get that XD, I am thinking of some possible ways though, for vita users…, anyway good luck for a fair competition!!.

  7. Hope we have plenty of people who have entered, keep Fatman out of the top 4 ;) I have a decent score and will upload it this weekend.

Little tip though, I played this for about a week on my Vita and couldn’t get over 160,000 and when I turned to my PS4 I smashed my score on the first attempt and got over 200,000. Although the games are similar I don’t think the Vita runs as quick and therefore you lose time and points.

Good luck for the last weekend guys.

  8. I think I got it!! ^^

I will give you guys my run here
