Driveclub PS Plus Edition Will Have Eleven Cars & Ten Tracks (Updated)

Sony has revealed what the PlayStation Plus edition of Driveclub will have when it launches in Octobers. Subscribers will be treated to the location of India, which itself will have eleven tracks. There will also be ten cars available to choose from, though which ones are yet to be announced. All game modes will be available from the start so you don’t have to worry about any cut content there.

This selection is a fifth of what the full game has where there are five locations, 50 cars, and 55 tracks. Even without upgrading you will be able to join a club, complete challenges, race online, and get the Platinum trophy. You’ll be able to upgrade to the full version of the game through the store for the price of  €49.99/$49.99/£42.99.

Update:

It appears that if you do upgrade the PS+ version for the above price, and then let your subscription run out you will lose access to Driveclub, though it will still be on your PS4. That is not a good practice at all and it also goes against what Evolution said, which was that PS+ would not be needed if you the Plus version was upgraded digitally. Hopefully this is just a confused message coming from the Blog staff, and the original stance is true.

  1. I’m guessing the policy gets reversed so we can all admire Sony for listening to peoples complaints.

  2. Blatant extortion. I know we should be used to it by now as the EU/UK mainly tend to get the shitty end of the stick but 43 quid for something that becomes unusable if your PS+ subscription lapses is just laughable.
I can see this costing them dearly in the long run as most people will just play the PS+ version until such a time that the physical disc version is substantially cheaper … if they even bother buying the full version at all.

  3. Wow, think I will just treat this as a demo then, if I enjoy it I will buy retail, it’s 49.99 on Amazon so that digital upgrade price is ridiculous. it’s a crowded time of year though so they are playing it risky.

    • I’m with you on this, I am simply treating this as a demo so that I can try before I buy, if it has the balance between arcade and sim correct I will buy the full version.

  4. You can pre-order now for £48.99. It’s inconceivable that it won’t be lower that £42.99 on disc shortly after or even before release

  5. Simply following the new Konami MGS model. Release a demo and sell at as a something, only they are giving it away as part of PS+. Several commentators have warned that this sort of shit was going to become more common as we continue to reward bad practice with our money and here we are.

  6. I have always been supportive of the idea of the PS+ edition given that it allows access to all modes and to achieve the platinum trophy and even with a slightly disappointing 20% of the content, I still get it and think it would be a good idea, HOWEVER…..that upgrade price is disgusting! I was honestly expecting £12-25 for the upgrade and this price of £43 has put me right off.
Seriously, that sort of pricing undermines the whole thing as I would rather just wait a couple of months and get the whole thing on Blu-Ray for less than that and retain some residual value for resale.

  7. As I’ve commented elsewhere…

This isn’t a Plus discount. You can play the Plus version and get the Platinum trophy without requiring any of the extra content the ‘upgrade’ gives. Which essentially makes everything you get with the upgrade DLC, while the core game remains a free Plus version.

I think this is once again a case of gamer entitlement, wanting/expecting something for next to nothing – not necessarily for those people here, but for many of those complaining on Twitter etc. From the way it had been talked about, people were basically expecting a huge, potentially triple-A racer for nothing with their Plus sub. Who knows… once the individual prices of the extra content are known, the upgrade/retail price may look like a bargain.

I thought this was an odd time to release the video before I watched it. I suspect Sony anticipated this knee-jerk reaction and wanted to give it time to die down before release. So I’m not convinced they will be changing anything about it.

I’ll play the Plus version, and if I like it, I’ll buy the retail disc version. That way I can play ‘forever’ regardless of Plus membership, and I get some resale value. Not really a big deal at all.

  8. One other thing to consider is… Is this game (demo) part of the monthly free PS+ games?
Judging by the release date rumours, it doesn’t look like it is. Therefore, what Sony are doing does kind of make sense – as long as you’re a PS+ member you can get a discounted version of the full game, and bearing in mind the game is very ‘online’ orientated I can see what they’re doing.

    • Just to clarify, I mean, will it be available to download from the PS+ store permanently? Not just within a month window.
