The Evil Within’s New Trailer Mixes Threshers With Claire De Lune

Survival Horror is in the midst of an exciting revival. The Evil Within is just one of a handful of games on the way that seem to finally have listened to fans of this ailing genre and got the tone of things just right.

It’s almost as if there’s a checklist of elements that will ignite that little spark of anticipation for a proper survival horror in me and The Evil Within has landed squarely on a large number of them:

  • Claire De Lune, a beautiful, hopeful piece of music
  • A calm but menacing voice over
  • Empty, abandoned wheelchairs
  • Hospital corridor
  • Difficulty of movement
  • Interspersed with idyllic scenes including but not limited to farms and swings
  • Long shadows
  • Villain (?) with heavy scarring and clumsy stitches
  • Dirty, grungy environments that look like they should be very clean
  • Electro shock therapy
  • Threshers
  • Environments switching between nice and horrific
  • People in traps
  • Huge monsters that look like a burst boil
  • Gallons of splashy blood
  • More threshers
  • Windows smashing inwards
  • Skinless monsters
  • Churches

  1. I can not wait for this game! The traps in it have been taken straight from my worst nightmares and placed in a game. Really hope this survival horror genre comes back to stay.

  2. I’m going to one of the Game preview events, hoping to get at least a hands on of a demo. I’m genuinely excited for this game.

  3. No nightvision camcorder with red flashing record light??!!

    • got to hold something back for the alpha/beta/demo/pre-order bonus!

  4. Really excited for this. That trailer genuinely sent a shiver down my spine. Have it preordered. Can’t wait!!
