Far Cry 4 Targets 1080p On All Systems

After last week’s Assassin’s Creed Unity resolution rumble, Ubisoft have announced that Far Cry 4 should hit 1080p on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

“We have not locked the resolution as yet but we are aiming for 1080p on all platforms, including PC,” said creative director Alex Hutchinson.

A nice, clear, easy to read and in no way confusing statement about resolutions. Excellent work Ubisoft, glad to see you’ve stopped putting your foot in your mouth.

Alex also revealed that the game should take around 35 hours to complete, whether you are a leaf spotting asshat (or potential customer, as they are known in the Ubisoft sales department) or not.

  1. More people should be referring to their potential customers as asshats. Recent events have shown that huge numbers of them are.

Unless the potential customer is called Bob. Then you should refer to them as Bob. Because it’s just a great name to say. Bob.

    • Bob? I thought he was called Kate?

  2. Lovely reply on twitter. He’s exactly right

  3. What even is an asshat? It makes no logical sense, you can’t wear a hat on your bottom. Unless they mean a hat for a donkey?

    • It’s a hat specially designed for the Beavis’ mate.

    • <3 <– This.

    • He must mean a donkey hat, because the other version is spelled arse as all us sensible Brits know.

  4. Great response. Its clear devs are fed up with the obsession with res/fps and the notion that any less is a conspiracy.

    • They only mentioned resolution, which they appear to have sensibly decided to fix at 1080p, as it should be.

Absolutely no mention of frame rate. The bit that really doesn’t matter, as long as it’s a decent enough number.

I’m predicting complaints from PC people that it’s _only_ 1080 and not something silly instead. And complaints from MS that it should have been 900 so the XBone can keep up with the PS4. And everyone with a PS4 happy that it does the right resolution and a decent frame rate.

That way everyone can be an asshat. Asshattery for all. That’s my motto. As of now.

    • That comment doesn’t make any sense to me?

  5. Strange how I can’t find that “asshat” tweet on Alex’s timeline…

I note on his twitter feed that he states that he’s a “former ice dancing champion”. I’m wondering, and this is very off topic, just how organised does a competition have to be to give yourself a title of “Former … Champion”?
My claim to fame is that I came last in a Miss Ibiza contest, something of which I think I can be rightly proud. Should I add “Miss Ibiza Finalist” to my twitter profile?
I also beat my sister at the 100m front crawl (she didn’t turn up because she wasn’t aware of the competition I created) so I might add that I’m a former swimming champion. It’s a bit of a stretch this claim though as I’m really not that good at front crawl, I’m best at breaststroke.

  6. I’ve noticed other websites’ comment sections where people are getting offended about potentially being called asshats. Thing is, if you’re not a complete tool then the reference doesn’t apply to you. If you are, then you are, indeed, an asshat. Grow-up and calm your tits!

    • I believe it’s actually “chill your tits ” you Welsh Tit.

  7. “We have not locked the resolution as yet but we are aiming for 1080p on all platforms, including PC,”

    • I told my wife that I’m aiming to become a world champion surfboarding juggler.

      • I told your wife I wasn’t aiming for “that” hole. We all lie sometimes.

    • Titanfall aimed for 900p60, ended up 792p with regular framedrops.

Hell, even an AC unity dev said they wanted 60fps and look how that turned out.

      • Yeah, they wanted 60fps and then ended up without any female playable characters! Ludicrous!

  8. Parity at 1080p is no concern really. You could be pedantic and say that the ps4 version should render above 1080p and downscale for free antialiasing.
