WeView: Bound By Flame

Today’s WeView may be a day later than usual, but at least we’re not as inconsistent as the PlayStation Network servers. Topping the WeView poll was the demonic RPG Bound By Flame. Released last summer, Bound By Flame, had a lot to live up to as the first real RPG on new generation consoles, so how did it fair?

I was on review duty when it came to Bound By Flame, and I really enjoyed my time with the game, giving it a final score of 6/10.

You might be thinking that 6 is quite a poor score, but Bound By Flame is by no means a bad game. The combination of fire and sword prove to be a winning combo when it comes to the combat. The targeting system, similar to that in the Souls games, is a great aid in battle too.

Visually you might find Bound By Flame a bit hit and miss. I was skeptical of the bold cartoonish appearance at first by later warmed to the vibrant environments. Where the game falters is in its storytelling; expect a lacklustre campaign made worse by the atrocious voice acting.

There’s also some missed co-op opportunities in Bound By Flame. For the most part of the game you’re accompanied by numerous companions, who each have different abilities. It would have been great to see a co-op campaign with a local or online player as the companion.

I concluded:

If you can look past the poor narrative and weak character dialogue Bound By Flame is a solid action RPG. The combination of fire and sword is an exciting duo which flows seamlessly in battle. However, you can’t help but feel that, with the PS4 in mind, Bound By Flame has been rushed to fill a gap in the market.
