There Is A $99.99 Assassin’s Creed Unity Unlock Pack

Assassin’s Creed Unity has in-game purchases that even the most generous of commentators would describe as micro-transactions as the packs can cost up to $99.99.

The player is able to earn boosts, costumes and other unlockables with experience points which are earned during the normal course of the game. Those with more money than sense can bypass this process and “hack” open the unlocks by using Helix Credits, $99.99 gets you 20,000 of them and a map unlock will cost you 150 credits.

I suppose some people just want to buy the fun out of their games and cheat there way to completion. Even if you did want a little help, two clicks and Google will give you a map of the game with the exact location of all the collectables and missions.

As for Ubisoft, well you can’t blame them for trying to make a fast buck of stupid people, can you? Maybe they can spend some of the money on improving the frame rate.

  1. To offer such high prices, there must be a market for it – someone must be buying them. Perhaps just rich kids who have more money than sense?

  2. Are they going to have an option to pay to resolve the issues with the game? £9.99 to unlock stable framerate?

  3. The problem with micro-transactions is games are almost always built around them, they are often at the core of the experience and that really shouldn’t be the case for a full price triple A game. Devs will artificially extend the game so that it loses it’s fun and it become a boring grind just so those micro-transactions are a little more tempting. Always disappointing to see them present.

  4. I bet this unlock is for the “non-parity” version! ;)

  5. If they’re not doing this for the money as they always inevitably claim they should let players sell their in game credits to other players (and undercut ubi’s prices of course)

    • That’s an interesting idea, shame they would never do it.

  6. I don’t see the point of spending £40+ for a game then spending more just to finish it quickly. The longer it takes to finish a game the better the value for money it is and the better the entertainment, which is what games are for.

  7. I can get better value for money by avoiding this game altogether.

  8. There should be a message saying ‘if you purchase this, the trophies will be locked!’
    =P
Sadly Micro-transactions will be like this on all games soon! I blame developers for doing so but it is business to them as they are trying to gain/make more money for the next project!
Mind we have an option to either buy upgrades/boost or simply play the game to get your monies worth!

    • I hope we don’t see more of this because for me it just cheapens their product, it feels like developers are selling out their vision to make these greedy publishers happy.
