  1. Nope, I spoke to a couple of friends this morning who own the game and they say it’s still very much broken, challenges constantly still don’t work and show errors once completed, so all the hard work is simply erased. And finding an online game is very difficult as well.

    • Online play and online stuff during single player work fine for me and have done for a while. Challenges are fine too. No idea what your friend is on about. The only glitch I’ve had is one of the Trophies relating to challenges.

      • If it’s the same one I’m thinking i don’t believe it’s a glitch you just have to be on the game when the challenge expires.

      • Yes, the trophies for winning 1 and 5 of your own challenges only pop up if you’re in the game when the challenge expires. And the person you sent them to has to attempt them. Can’t just send 5 challenges and wait 30 minutes. (Obviously, they have to attempt them and not do as well as you too)

      • No, they play the challenge and the game shows a server error, and then everything is wiped so there is definitely an issue for some players. Remember different people experience different problems with these games, same as Assassin’s Creed Unity, not all reviewers experienced repeatedly falling through the floor in that game.

      • I often wish the online stuff would break again so Tom’s records didn’t show up but unfortunately the games been working consistently for weeks.

      • Yup, that is indeed the case with getting the 5 challenge wins trophy. I’d been at the top of around 10 sent challenges but the trophy hadn’t popped as I’d set them up then effed off but the other day was playing the game during active challenges sent out and the final trophy + platinum popped it’s cork.

Working through the free DLC packs at the moment and found the difficulty spiked up a tad…100%’d Ignition but struggling with the Photo Finish Drifty’s, good challenge though ;)

    • For me the game and challanges have worked solidly over the weekend for me no errors at all,I was on it at least a good 3 or 4 hours straight Friday or Saturday night doing the challenges and also grinding towards my final 2 trophies which I need for the plat, looking forward to trying out that weather update looks stunning in all the vids.

    • I’ve only had it for about 4 days, but I’ve found it to be totally problem free and all working. Maybe they need to reinstall?

  2. Not quite the full package as there still aren’t any replays but I’ll take it!

  3. Well then, a-downloading i shall go..

  4. That weather is impressive.

I now have a new favourite thing to do in Driveclub. Pick a road circuit race (that first one in Canada works well, being a nice long figure of 8). Set the time to start sometime in the afternoon and set it to x30, put the weather on “stormy” and “dynamic” and start a 25 lap race.

It’ll take you 30+ minutes (depending on skill and the car you’re using), but it’s impressive. It rains lots. You get nice thunderstorms. And then it gets dark. The lightning in the dark it nice. The way the raindrops on the screen light up is even neater once you realise they’re lighting up from the reflections of your headlights in the mirrors of the car in front. And then the sun comes up as you do the last laps.

And with any luck you get lots of XP, and a 40+ mile race might just finish of some of those accolades to get you even more.

    • Nice I’m currently grinding away at the accolades and Canada as it’s my closest country to completion, a few other accolades for that trophy as well an then to get to finally reach level 50 for plat.

      • I think some of the manufacturer accolades are the best way to get those last few levels. There are 4 of them that seem to give silly amounts of XP compared to the others, even before you get to level 5.

  5. The game was a bit broken when launched but most things are sorted now. I think some folk gave up on it too early, with the improvments and new DLC every month for a year there’s plenty of enjoyment left in the game.

    • I don’t think people gave up on things too early – It is not an unreasonable expectation to have a game work as intended out of the box on release day. Hell, within the first month of release would have been nice! These things really should have worked out of the gate & I entirely understand some peoples frustration & moving on to other things.

I was holding out for the PS Plus version just to see if it was to my tastes (as I much prefer arcade racers to sims), but I have given up hope of that ever appearing now & as a result, I will likely be getting the crew instead.

Overall it was a massive cock up on their part to not have the game working for paying customers & then removing the plus version entirely just to make things slightly better for said paying customers (& rightly so of course!) – They have to expect some flak for that & for people to have moved onto other things. In this day & age, people can barely wait 5 minutes, let alone a couple of months.

      • I agree games shouldn’t be released before they are properly tested for bugs etc. There’s been far too many that should have been delayed instead of being released when they needed more work.

The Crew is a good game but can be very frustrating, especially when you lose connection to the server in a middle of an event and can’t carry on, even while on a solo event.

      • Yeah, the thing that is beginning to frustrate me about this gen is the requirement for a complete online connection all of the time for games (or modes more accurately I suppose) that simply don’t need it.

No-one’s connection is going to be perfect all of the time (in some cases, a lot of the time!), so why restrict your game to those rules when it isn’t even necessary, meaning some cannot play at certain times of the day (or at all, connection allowing).

Like Destiny for example – Has single player content, but due to the nature of the game in that it is connecting to other players in the world, requires an online connection to play it. Completely locked off if you cannot access their servers for whatever reason. How is that fair?

        Its just frustrating & unnecessary.

      • Also, a point I forgot to mention; Aside from your own connection, what happens when PSN is down, or the servers at their end are down (for maintenance or other less useful reasons)? You cannot play. At all.

That should never be the case unless it is a multiplayer only type game (arena based or whatever). Anything that has some shred of singleplayer activity should remain available in the event of downtime for whatever reason.

      • It looks like Ubisoft has done something about having to be always connected, while playing this afternoon I got a message stating ‘challenges are not available when there’s no server connection’ when driving through a challenge gate.

      • Well, that sounds like an improvement at least – I can deal with a little message stating that you need to have a connection to do certain things rather than being locked out entirely. It would likely still frustrate me of course, but that would be manageable frustration! ;)

  6. Sweet! I’ll have to wait ’til I get home from work unfortunately. The rain in the video’s looks amazing. I can imagine the lighting probably looks pretty amazing too. If you can hear thunder I may have to whack the volume up on my bass bin.

  7. Bought this the other day fearing the worst. Very impressed with the first few races, especially the changing time. Everything online seems to work fine for me too. Only problem is is that the AI offline are bloody aggressive :P

  8. If someone can manage to take a photo of the lightning, I’ll be impressed. It’s easy to press the touchpad to start photo mode. Doing it quickly enough to capture lightning is not so easy.

Doing it at 150mph+ when it’s raining. And dark. That doesn’t end well. Unless you want a nice photo of lightning and a wet car in a more vertical position than is traditional. (How exactly do you end up with a car rotating 90 degrees about not just 1 axis but 2? And live? And carry on driving it?)

    • Sounds like a challenge which I’d gladly try. I’ll post it in the DC pics forum if I manage it.

    • Maybe record a video then go through it and attempt to pause it at the correct place and snap a picture.

      • That’s snow and lightning! Which doesn’t count. Because snow is a poor substitute for rain.

At least it doesn’t have hail, which is even worse. That’s just lumpy rain. (Things shouldn’t be lumpy. Apart from space princesses)

      • I would like to chip in. The NeoGAF Photomode thread has gone ballistic. I’ve just waded through a couple of pages, constantly swearing at what I’m seeing. Um. Wow. Wow again. Shitting wow!

      • They are looking really good, especially with the addition of the weather etc.
Buinmo… if you tell Santa to hurry up with your PS4 you could get posting some pics here on TSA.
I reckon i’ll have to post a few more now that it’s gonna be raining 90% of the time in my races.

      • I’d share some of my photos but…

        1. Embarrassing crashes
        2. Black car at night lit only by lightning = not very interesting photo
        3. Can’t steer due to rain so I’m concentrating on racing to get to level 50

I like the 2 new tracks though. Add rain to that Norwegian one with bridges and it feels like I’m rushing to solve some sort of unpleasant murder.

      • Pfft… I’m Welsh. This weather is all too familiar. Last thing I want is photos of the fu****g stuff.

        :-P

      • Sorry. I should’ve spelt photos as “phortors” so you can appreciate the accent I probably should have. :-)

      • I’ve managed to catch the lightning & posted a couple of pics in the DC pic forum.
        They look pretty cool!
