The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Delayed Another Twelve Weeks Until May 19th

Nine months ago The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was delayed until February 2015 and sadly the team have announced that they require another twelve weeks to polish the game, pushing the release date back to May 19th 2015.

Delays are annoying, especially when the game turns up broken (Driveclub) or with a ridiculous day one patch (The Crew), but it appears the developers are doing their best to create a decent game without pushing their team to work 24/7, which I think is fair. Here is the full press release.

Dear Gamers,

Ever since we started working on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we knew it would be an ambitious game. We wanted, and still aim, to give you an incredible experience, an epic adventure in a vast, completely open fantasy universe.

The sheer size and complexity of The Witcher, key features of the title, have had a decisive impact on production. Now, nearing the end of our work, we see many details that need to be corrected. When we release the most important game in our studio’s history, we must be absolutely sure that we did everything we could to limit any bugs to a level that will allow you to enjoy the game thoroughly.

With this in mind, we took another look at current workloads and what they mean for the team. Even though everyone is working at full speed, we concluded that we need another 12 weeks, so we are shifting the release date of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to May 19th, 2015.

We owe you an apology. We set the release date too hastily. It’s a hard lesson, one to take to heart for the future. We know what we want to do to make Wild Hunt one of the best RPGs you will ever play. And we continue to work hard to achieve just that. So, we apologize and ask for your trust.

Thank you for the all support you show us on a daily basis. We truly do appreciate it. It has fueled us in our passion since the start and will continue to do so.

  1. Well that’s annoying. Batman is released just 2 weeks later so I won’t give The Witcher as much time as I think it will deserve.

  2. Take as much time as they want, I would much prefer the developers release it when it is ready and playable unlike soooooooooooo many recent titles.

The Crew was just utterly stupid…couldn’t join crew! The Secret Ponchos another…online multiplayer game that required a patch to get online…

  3. Quite happy about this really, I’d rather a game was delayed so that it can actually be released complete. Nothing worse than picking up a game on release and it being broken…

  4. F*** f*** f***. And 2 weeks before Batman, are you mad?!

    The Order 1886 it is.

  5. From a company as customer friendly as CD Projekt I would not be surprised if they will give out some free content or something extra for these delays.

    • It’s only £40 to preorder on psn

  6. Simply ask yourself this question ‘Do you want to risk another game like AC: Unity?’

    • I’ve had more glitch/pop in/frame rate issues with Far Cry 4
