Square Enix Are Considering Other Final Fantasy Games For PS4

The Chinese PlayStation 4 launch may have an unexpected benefit for fans of the Final Fantasy games in other parts of the world.

“Not limited to just X/X-2, we’re currently thinking of setting [a way] to have other past Final Fantasy titles playable on the PS4,” said Final Fantasy producer Shinji Hashimoto at a Sony press conference.

“And in China’s case, they’re practically starting with the PlayStation 4 as their main console,” he added,” “For this reason, we’re keeping in mind the sense of crisis of not being able to play these masterpiece titles. However, this does not mean that we can simply transfer [these titles] to PS4, so as content holders, we must prepare a way to steadily have them available to play on PS4.”

Assuming that there is a fairly high degree of “lost in translation”, the most important thing to note is that Hashimoto mentions X/X2, not FF VII. Those games are HD remasters rather than PC ports so maybe we will see other Final Fantasy games get the HD treatment.

  1. Please re-release XII that is all.

    • Agreed, I’d be delighted by that. Maybe I’ll finally finish it this time!

      • My ps2 died so never completed it either. Put so many hours into it as well.

    • XII would be ideal for an HD remaster – great game, and probably my favourite PS2 Final Fantasy over X.

      • Yeah same here it was awesome.. Just didn’t get to the end.

  2. IX started it all off for me. I put so many hours into that game and managed to get the S rating at the end. I guess it would have been a platinum if trophies existed.

Not sure if a remake would taint my memory though.

    • I replayed it last year and it still holds up pretty well I’d say, the story is great, the characters are likable and it’s gorgeous for a PSone title.

  3. Exciting times. As long as it’s any game except 13, I didn’t think much of that. 7,8,9, or 12 though, take my money.

  4. IX for me please. I love that game so so so much still.
