Out This Week: inFamous Second Son, Final Fantasy & Metal Gear Solid V

This is it. Now we’re finally getting somewhere. If last week’s delicious Dark Souls/Titanfall tag team wasn’t enough to get you excited then hopefully you won’t be disappointed with this week’s offerings.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD | PS3, Vita | Friday

It seems the “HD Classics” fad is still in full swing, with Final Fantasy X being the latest to receive a makeover.

Leaving the core mechanics firmly in tact, Square Enix has given the entire game – as well as Final Fantasy X-2 – a proper spruce up for both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

If you’re not into turn-based combat then it may come as a turn-off but for existing fans and genre enthusiasts, the “HD Classics” tag has never been as relevant.

inFamous: Second Son | PS4 | Friday

Switching things up a little this time around Sucker Punch has left Empire City and New Marais, opting for Seattle instead. Despite the strange shift between faux-cities and a real-life setting, Second Son is still very much an inFamous game at heart.

With Cole nothing but a distant memory, players now don the beanie and denim jacket of Delsin Rowe, equipped with a whole new suite of powers. The ability to manipulate and turn into smoke may be Delsin’ signature power though there are more out there, combining to create a colourful arsenal to unleash on Seattle’s DUP population.

We’ll have a review of this on Thursday, before the game’s release. We might even stream some, too.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes | PS4, X1 | Friday

After all the convoluted teasers and curveballs, our first glimpse at MGS V finally lands this week. Branded as a prologue to the upcoming Phantom Pain, Ground Zeroes presents players with a chance to test the waters.

According to initial reports the stealth action taster clocks in at just over a few hours. Still, it should give players enough time to expect what’s to come later this year.

Our review went live earlier today, we scored it 6/10 noting the high price and short game time.

The Witch and The Hundred Knights | PS3 | Friday

Arriving nearly a year after its Japanese debut, The Witch and the Hundred Knights brings our Japanese import total to three.

As The Hundred Knight, players serves the malign sorceress, Metallia, as she looks to bring down her rivals. Expect hours of top-down, hack n’ slash RPG action with a guaranteed dose of repetition. Our review is currently in the works.

Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z | PS3, 360, PC | Friday

Since its acclaimed second instalment, Ninja Gaiden has lost its way somewhat. The third game in the series – and even its updated relaunch – both failed to hit the spot thanks to the dull yet brutal combat experience.

What better way to change things up, then, than to give the series a zombie-focused spin-off. Lost Planet 3 developer, Spark Unlimited, is trying its hand at the series, giving it a cel-shaded makeover and hopefully improving on the staling mechanics.

  1. Second Son is a definite buy for me. Unless something horrific comes up in the review, that is!

MGS is annoying. I am really interested and want to play it but that’s just too much money for a glorified demo. I’ll probably look to pick it up on eBay in a few weeks.

  2. Ninja Gaiden Z – Nice splatter of less than subtle innuendo at the 1:45 mark. The ‘Carry On’ films were more subtle!

  3. Got Infamous coming in the post. Hyped!

  4. Infamous, MGS both for PS4 and FFX for VITA for me. Busy busy week. Cant wait to get my teeth into Infamous. Apparently its quite an easy plat in under 30 hours which is a little disappointing.

    • Depends on what kind of shards you have to find, if they are anything like the first one then we have a challenge in hand

      • Apparently there is a security thing to destroy in each area. Once you have destroyed that they all just appear on map. Which is fine as I got quite quite frustrated during the first game with the shards but a little challenge like in Infamous 2 would have been good.

    • Got Infamous and FFX on Vita for me.

Will hold of for phantom pain.

  5. Is final fantasy HD vita out this Friday cause amazon don’t have it listed

  6. Roll on Friday for infamous or hopefully maybe even a early delivery :)

  7. Can’t wait til Friday – infamous and FFX on PS3 for me!

  8. I have both Second Son and Final Fantasy X(Vita) coming. Im more excited about FFX if im honest. I love it!

  9. It’s quite silly having the review embargo until Thursday I think on inFamous SS. To me it sends as if it’s going to be rubbish when it’s embargoed til then. I’ve got it on preorder but will send it back if it’s rubbish.
