Some of you are online and playing Destiny right now, and for that reason I hate you*, because as I returned home tonight I turned my PlayStation on in order to join you in the Iron Banner and was confronted with a message to say that the PlayStation Network is down for maintenance.
We're aware that some of you are having issues connecting to the PSN. Engineers are investigating.

Your mileage may vary, but it seems as though existing connections from before the point at which this latest PSN blip landed are able to maintain contact with the servers, while fresh connections are unable to be made. In other words, if you’re playing late into the night in Europe or into the evening in North America, avoid turning off your PS4 until you’re done playing or you might not be able to reconnect.
As a consequence, this seems to be more of a brownout rather than a complete blackout though, and double checking my PS4 before posting this message saw it successfully logging in and populating my friends list. Sadly, it’s too late for me to play now, but I was able to write a haiku about this whole situation:

Let’s hope that Thursday’s scheduled maintenance is Sony doubling their server capacity, eh?

Doesn’t impact me as I don’t pay for PSN but their level of down-time for a paid service is becoming ridiculous.
They really need to get their act into gear. This was tolerable on a free service but if they want to charge for it they need to sort their shit out

Over the past few months we’ve also been making a more concerted effort to report on Xbox Live downtime. Simply put, it hasn’t been as prevalent.

It’s got nothing to do with PSN vs Live.
I don’t care how often live is down since I sold my 360 (and currently have no intention on getting an XB1).
My comment is purely down to a paid service and the reliability of said service.
If my sky or internet or phone were down as often as PSN I’d be furious.
Down time was fine/excusable when PSN was free. But now they want to charge for it they have to improve. It’s simply not acceptable to charge for a service when there seems to be problems every second week.

When Xbox live is down for several hours, nothing….
This is why gullible people actually believe PSN is any less reliable than XBox Live. Go check the historic stats, there is little between them

This was more than a 5 minute downtime, and I saw a lot of people complain about it on twitter as well as finding myself affected.
And again, we’re trying to highlight when Xbox Live has its own downtime and hiccups with more regularity.

I don’t care how often live is down
I don’t care for the comparison between live down time and PSN down time
In isolation, PSN is not reliable enough for a paid service in my opinion
I wouldn’t accept it with my internet, sky or phone, so I feel the same about PSN
You’re the only one taking about live and how it compares to PSN here … have a think about that for a moment

I had the usual ‘network features unavailable’ notification while loading up GTA online last night.
That usually pops up when I’m about to get signed out,but it never affected anything like online play etc.
