Insomniac Discuss The Ratchet & Clank Remake For PS4

Way, way back during Sony’s 2014 E3 conference a trailer was shown for the Ratchet & Clank movie which will be hitting theatres this year, and there was a brief mention of the dynamic duo also coming yo PlayStation 4. “Whether that means a massive HD port or if the series is getting a reboot, we’re sure to learn more over the coming months,” speculated Aran.

Since then, silence. Until today, huzzah, when Insomniac have finally revealed their plans which is “re-imagines the original Ratchet & Clank” with completely new visuals built from the ground up for the PlayStation 4. Here is there full statement:

Ratchet & Clank have been a part of our lives at Insomniac for over 12 years. To this day, the series inspires us with the promise of new planetary adventures, propulsive action, and intergalactic wonder.

In 2015, we have the rare (actually, for us, unprecedented) opportunity to expand Ratchet’s universe simultaneously in two forms. We’ll continue our involvement with the Ratchet & Clank feature film. And we’re excited to announce that we’re also developing a game that shares the film’s vision of Ratchet’s origin story. As featured in Sony’s press conference, the game re-imagines the original Ratchet & Clank, with updated gameplay and completely new visuals built from the ground up for the PlayStation 4.

Our California and North Carolina studios are making the game together, marking our deepest cross-country collaboration to date. Many of the original developers responsible for the very first Ratchet & Clank game have an opportunity to create the stunning Solana Galaxy that they–and our fans–have always wanted to see. Longtime Design Director Brian Allgeier, Studio Director Chad Dezern, and Game Director Shaun McCabe will lead the project.

The movie was scheduled for “early 2015” so presumably it, and the game, have been delayed until later this year.

  1. No way we’re seeing this game in 2015.

Still, it’s nice to hear someone actually mention it.

There’s a huge hole in the market where Ratchet & Clank used to be.

    • I don’t know, even though it looks to be quite a thorough and careful remaster/remake, as opposed to a quick up-rezzed port, it shouldn’t take too long should it, being that they already have alot of things done previously.

      • I really don’t know. All the other games were released in November so it’s possible I guess. But would they release the movie just before Christmas? Feels like more of a Spring/Summer release. Either way, I’d be more than happy if they do release it this year.

  2. Looking forward to this, Ratchet & Clank is one of my all time favourites and i can’t wait to see how it looks on PS4.
