It’s still not entirely clear what Nintendo are really up to with their Amiibo figurines – aside from printing money, of course – but they announced several new pieces of information in today’s Nintendo Direct. Naturally, a big part of that is with adding more models to the range.
May 29th
- Greninja
- Jigglypuff
June
- Zero Suit Samus
- Palutena
- Dark Pit
- Ganondorf
July
- Olimar
- Dr. Mario
- Bowser Jr.
Mewtwo and Lucas will also be on their way, as new characters being added to Super Smash Bros. over the next few months.
They also talked about the new Touch & Play Nintendo Classics Highlights, where you’ll be able to simply touch your various Amiibos to the NFC sensor on the Gamepad and it will load up a short snippet of a classic Nintendo game. But, each Amiibo will be randomly assigned a different 3 minute demo the first time you touch it to the sensor. In that way, you could end up with two Mario Amiibo and get two different games or parts of games.
Certainly not a system seller, but a nice little touch to let you get a little bit more out of the Amiibo you might be buying.
